Reading Simon's happy BD to ch.com post got me thinking. (Yeah, the brain is old but can still fire up a thought now and then.) Where have some of the original ch.com regular posters gone. I'm thinking about those that were here prior to March , 1999, when I found my home, but are long gone. There was Ueli, Linda B, Drummer, Todd, Nancy from Texas (miss the Saturday funnies), Lars and many more. And who can forget BETA BLOCKERS, magnets and some other miracles to "cure" CH.

Alotta them folks were here when I first came on the scene...I seem to remember a coupla them saying they were leaving, but as far as I know the rest have no excuse. Ueli just kinda seemed to drop off into obscurity...odd that.
Everyone threatens to leave at some point or another, and I remember having to develop quite a thick skin about alot of stuff.
Course Jonny is rather ugly, and I can imagine folks getting tired of that.... ;;D LMAO! I'm smiling while I say this.....really! :D

I have been purposefully absent for quite a while. And I have been perusing this site as a guest (i.e. not signed on) to see what I could see. And I have some thoughts on this.

The missions of this site as well as the overall mission of OUCH have been lost.

It is a FACT that OUCH's current leadership (for want of a better word) has lost sight of what its purpose is. This is an organization whose sole purpose is to edify, change perception of, sway public policy regarding, and lobby for more pertinent research as they relate to cluster headaches. It is NOT to foster a playground-like atmosphere. It is NOT to judge the ideas of the populace based on their own bizarre machinations (Tommy Thompson ring a bell?). Let me give you an example: The report on the 2003 Convention? Use the Spell Check. Hire a kid from the local college down the road to edit it. Publishing what you did was a discredit to OUCH and therefore a discredit to me. And I speak and write perfectly. Policy makers in congress ,CEOs of Insurance Companies? They know the English language.

Is this an elitist position? Perhaps. But the bottom line is that you are at the forefront of an organization who NEEDS these policy makers. They are not going to associate themselves with imperfection. They are not going to associate themselves with an organization which can change the public's perception of them. When you are wearing your OUCH hat, it needs to be a professional one. You need to be in your suit. You need to have your Brooks Brothers' loafers on and you need to be pressing palms and slapping backs.

To that point, I think there needs to be a discernible, clear, concise, and ruthless line between CH.com and OUCH. Some of the back-biting I have seen on this board is unconscionable. Publishing PERSONAL and slanderous attacks toward individuals in a public forum such as this one is unforgivable. Were I the admin, each personal attack would result in a permanent banning (and a ban to your IP address too) until doomsday. And let this be a lesson to you all who read this: You have rights. A slanderous (or, in this case I guess it's libelous) attack here warrants legal action. Someone does that to me and you will have the full force of my attorneys and what influence and money I have on you like white on rice. I will take everything you own. Forever. And trust me, forever is a long time. Know too that jonny calling me an "fuckwit" (and I have no doubt he is doing that right now) does not fall into this category. You know what does. I'll leave it at that.

Do you want to know why long-time people have left this site? It is because maybe, just maybe, they have had enough. You can scream the litany of "family" to me until you are blue in the face. You can say "I'll never leave here" (and may I add that saying you'll never leave here for the sake of simply NOT leaving is a stupid position. It reeks of mediocrity). No matter how you feel, let's keep in mind that the mission of OUCH and CH.com is to educate and support. Keep them separate. Stop being glib. Have some self-discipline.

And while we are at it, you want to use CH.com as a place to meet folks? Have some friends? Go ahead. NO problem. I think that's a good thing. Keeps things fresh. But if you are out there and you are reading my private messages and are logging to whom I speak on this site and then USING that against me? I'll see you in court and/or you should be banned. You are taking the GUTS away from this place.

And if anything...IF ANYTHING...I remain steadfast in my belief that the folks who have CHs have guts. I have seen guts here. I will continue to. But if you politicize and endanger these people from showing those guts and for fighting the GOOD fight with your pansy-ass personal politics, then you are a coward and I will see you in hell. CH is bad enough as it is.

1. Huh?

2. I think the leadership of OUCH is doing a great job with what they have to work with. They are all volunteers with jobs, families and homes to care for. If they were earning $100,000+ salaries it might be a different story.

3. This is DJ's website. Not mine. Not yours. Not OUCH's. DJ makes the rules and we do not dictate the rules to him.

4. OUCH has a website. If someone has a gripe with OUCH they can take it there.

Sometimes folks just find ways to be "fed up". It's their perogative. I can only hope that the clusterheads gone but not forgotten know how much they are missed and how important each and evey one of them continues to be.

I never met DJ. He's the guy who set this joint up ya know. It's my understanding that he set this place up out of his own experience with clusters in the hopes that others would show up, mebbe shed some lite... And they did. At first, it was a few couragious people - they came together through cyberspace and worked and worked and worked together to create where we are all now at. After all is said and done, anyone who suffers from cluster headaches KNOWS how lucky they are to arrive here. It's just too damn important for us to be all on the same page, both for the comfort and the opportunity to make a difference in the future.

BobG is ABSOLUTELY right.

Brian Y, not everyone will see eye-to-eye. But I TINK if we keep our eye on the TIGER the rest will eventually settle.

*This is the house that DJ built. It provides a place we as sufferers can come together and share what we are, past and present. It brings us together so that we can forge a future WITHOUT clusters.

One more thing. This is NOT a friendship board. No one here is freaking OBLIGATED to be PALS. It's for CLUSTER SUFFERERS and their SUPPORTERS. PERIOD.

I am missing more and more of them. It's not freaking RITE!

Just a point which I seem unclear about. Does this exerpt mean that OUCH is for educating and CH.com for
support? I am guessing that is the portrayal drawn. For now, being this is my take on what I've read, I wish to simply respond with that interpretation perceived, unglibly.

I have been undisciplined by supporting someone's views on the OUCH board. I have been guilty of being educated on the CH.com message board. I try to be disciplined.

I'm still around - and I miss the Saturday funnies too. We used to look forward to them. Remember when Nancy got sick and had to have surgery. We had to go two weeks without them and we all had withdrawal.

I miss Drummer's wit and .... oh well, we're still here. Guess that's better than nothing.

Excuse me if I ignore all that "whats wrong with OUCH and ch.com" crap. Ya know what that white stuff is in bird crap? That's birdcrap too.

I was reading the board back then Kip but was too afraid to step into the cliquish quagmire of wittisms and profoundities from folks obviously smarter than me. I didn't post till later in 99. I'm glad their gone...now with this crowd...I don't look so stupid.

Though not one known for my warm fuzzy interpersonal relationship skills...I still get an enormous feeling of gratitude when their names (and many more I could add that are long gone) are mentioned or I delve into the archives. I owe my management of CH to you and them. Those lights, more like a lighthouse than Motel 6, are still very much on here for souls lost in pain's red fog.

The new folks, most of whom I know little about due to my inability to keep up with the enormous volume of posts here, are doing great work and I envy the close relationships that I see them building.

I do remember responding to one of your posts way back then in a somewhat negative manner when I was really feeling a bit pissed of at everything in general (normal for me if you ask Judy) and later reading the flame and appoligizing for not recognizing some rather excelent sarcasm. People who want cluster specific stuff only, won't stick around this part of the board. For one thing they won't have the time. Not to worry.

The most effective writing, especially on the internet does not come from those with Rogets and William Safire at their side. William Safire knows that it's wise to use his own books on English sparingly.

Since my coming here in September 2000, the message board has never been more civil than today. In the old days, when Ted, Ueli, Jonny, and The Rev were young, things got pretty bouncy....sometimes way over the line. There were some good times though. Damn I need to take another excursion to the archives. Reading Drummer, Den and Georgia, is a joy.

I don't care what Bozo says. I haven't been this excited or this active in a bulletin board since I ran "tHe ArCaDe BBS" and the "AmeriCom" BBS network back in 1992 - 1996.

Back before the internet became so incredibly popular, people could dial into my computer and read/post messages, play games and download files 24/7. I did the whole thing out of my own pocket and love for computers, so I have a deep respect for DJ and everyone else who does this kind of thing.

I know I am heavy-handed at times. I have to do that with my work. I have to do that in my "community involvement", other boards (not internet boards) I sit on etc.

And so I know I was heavy-handed here. But I am also quite strong.

My last piece of advice for you is to focus on what needs to be focused on. I am also aware I ended that sentence with a preposition. Half the posters who, in response to my diatribe, spent in reveling in the fact I made grammatical errors. How pitiful.

Grammatical acumen, sure, but sweet irony is wasted on you.

I suppose you are doing somethign right with this cause if migraines are such a hot topic and CHs (which make migraines look like NOTHING) are lost in the wilderness.

Hell, I see migraine commercials (or, rather, ads for migraine meds). Wouldn't that be nice?

Folks, let us get down to the meat of this.

1) People come and people go; myself included. Deal with it, get over it or whatever.

3) BY did make some good points AND also had the balls to express his opinion that are not necessarily, myself included, fair to the OUCH board nor popular.
4) Respect the opinions others and retort if you must. That is also your right.

He also happens to have some excellent ideas...and the skills to put these plans in motion....

I don't get this thing. Aside from learning 700% more about this horror, I have had a lot of fun and met a pile of you. If this place weren't so loose and fun, My feeling is that many fewer people would stick around or at least keep track of us.

Oh..and the Churchill quote wasn't aimed at anyone other than the idea that we shouldn't have to have a copy of E. B. White's "The Elements Of Style" in front of us when posting here.

While I tend to agree with some of your points in general, you need to take a course in management and delivery skills.

Your ‘elitist’ position is just what is wrong with this country as a whole. If you were in charge of a project, a member of a community board, my boss, or my father, and spoke with the arrogance you have here, you’d be strung up by your gonads right quick!

...I've "spoken" with Bri-Y before but he's too damn smart (and intransigent in his arrogance) to change ANYthing...even his argyle socks with any regularity.
