Anyhow, I've decided what I'm going to purchase next, hopefully next year if everything goes right. I built my own, and you can see it here: http://tinyurl.com/2ta8w Now, be it your next new vechicle purchase, or your dream ride, what's YOUR next car/truck/cycle?? :)mel |

Title: Re: Talkin about cars.... Post by Turts on Apr 9th, 2004, 9:29am I only read about this motorcycle today. its called the Y2K. Its worth $237,000 dollars. It has a moneyback guarantee that it will reach 400kph. It has a turbine engine used in helicopters will optimum performance achieved at 56,000 rpm. It only has two gears. There are only 9 in the world. apparently a guy was booked on one in the states doing 375kph on a 70kph zone. Id be buying one of these. Only draw back is it runs on an avgas concoction and only gets 32 kilometres to the tank. Thats a lot of fuel tanks. Apart fromthis I own my dream bike. Triumph Sprint RS yellow 2003 model. I just did a 5342km trip to Tasmania and back in 20 days. Turts |

Title: Re: Talkin about cars.... Post by Gator on Apr 9th, 2004, 10:10am Nice looking Monte Carlo, Melissa. ...The fog rolls in and a dreamy look falls over my face - oh, no...Not a flashback sequence... My first car was a '65 Impala that I traded for a Harrington and Richardson .410 singleshot shotgun. The dude I got it from was an ex-con who couldn't legally buy a gun. When I was 17 I got a '56 Chevy Bel-Air - 4 door, cow patty green. Huge tank of a car. (but a big back seat ;;D) Wish I had held onto that beast. Then a '70 Plymouth Duster. The 225cid slant 6 engine ran almost 300K miles before it died. I didn't even bitch. I just eased it over to the side of the road and called the old man for a tow. I had one of those LTD II - Starksy and Hutch cars, too. Sweet car with a police interceptor package in it. My first ex-wife got that one. Second ex-wife got my 1980 Elcamino while I was stationed overseas in Korea and Japan. I personally rebuilt the engine, did the bodywork, painted it, rebuilt the suspension. Man it was sweet. ...fog lifts - Damn, back to reality... Personally, if I win the lottery or I find a long lost rich uncle to suck up to and get in his will, I'd get a mint condition '53 Corvette. Better half wants a Porche, but I think they are ugly little cars. (that oughta start something) Volkswagon with a fancy body. I would also get a new GMC pick up. Something in a long bed crew cab with plenty of power for hauling and towing. Gator It's a long story |

Title: Re: Talkin about cars.... Post by BobG on Apr 13th, 2004, 1:47pm I had a Austin Healey when I was in high school (37 years ago). My older brother and I ripped the body off and put a '27 T-bucket body on. For a seat we cut the legs off a wooden dining chair and glued some foam rubber on it. It was a fun little car but that 4-banger motor was a guttless sucker. The front brakes were shot and we didn't have the money for new parts so we just took the brakes off and crimped the tubing so it wouldn't leak too badly. Lots of fun driving with only rear brakes, especially when it rained and the streets were slick. It probably was the most dangerous car I've ever had. But, hey, teenage boys are stupid as hell. ;;D |

Removed the back seat and welded an old empty lp tank to the floor for a gas tank. Bucket seats up front with a roll cage around the seats and around the engine. We were hell on wheels. Rolled the car and jumped little ramps in my step-dads 20 acre field for fun, playing Dukes of Hazzard. Once we jumped a railroad track that was on a hill. Went airborn for quite a ways. When we landed we totally blew out the shocks. Blew out a tire. Sparks flying everywhere, oil from the busted shocks on the road. It was fun! Those were the days. |

Title: Re: Talkin about cars.... Post by Racer1_NC on Apr 14th, 2004, 1:32pm SAN ANTONIO -- Mercedes-Benz is counting on its new E320 CDI to help put to rest the ghosts of diesels past. The E320 CDI is Mercedes' first diesel-powered car for the United States in five years. It's a 3,800-pound mid-sized sedan that reaches 60 mph in 6.8 seconds and can get 40 mpg on the highway. During the press introduction of the car here, Mercedes executives said the E320 CDI is a clean break from older diesels. They say it produces no smoke, offers better performance than the gasoline-powered E-class sedan and runs almost as quietly. The E320 CDI arrives at U.S. dealerships in about two weeks. Mercedes says prices will be announced at that time. The gasoline-powered E320 has a sticker price of $48,075, including destination charges. Mercedes believes that it can sell 3,000 diesel E320 CDIs in 45 states this year. The E320 CDI won't be offered in California, New York, Vermont, Massachusetts and Maine because of stricter emissions regulations in those states. Mercedes plans to offer the car in those states in late 2006 when the car gets a new emissions system and low-sulfur diesel fuel becomes widely available. Power to spare A 3.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine with dual overhead cams and four valves per-cylinder powers the E320 CDI. The engine is equipped with a new high-pressure common rail computerized fuel injection system; an advanced turbocharger with a variable nozzle turbine; and an intercooler, which improves performance by cooling the air entering the engine. The transmission is a five-speed automatic that also can be shifted manually. All-wheel drive, available with the gasoline-powered engine, will not be offered with the diesel. The car is rated at 27 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. But when driven with a light foot on flat roads, the 3,835-pound sedan can beat its EPA fuel economy ratings and deliver better fuel economy than other cars in its class sold in North America. During a test drive here, Mercedes staged a 110-mile economy run and challenged auto writers to see who could get the best fuel mileage. Five cars out of a dozen got 40 mpg or better. One car got 45 mpg. |

Title: Re: Talkin about cars.... Post by TomM on Apr 14th, 2004, 1:56pm Bill--thanx for the press release. I luv MB diesels! A straight 6 turbo, intercooled, dual OHC. What's not to like? The common rail injection is new. Sounds like they eliminated the tubing from the high pressure injection pump and switched to a 'fuel rail'. 27/37 MPG's is very good. My 300SD got 25 city and about 29 highway but that car weighed 5400 pounds. Thank you. Tom |

Ya take what you can get when your 15, 16, 17 years old. Come to think of it, you do that at 41, too. :'( At the time it was either that or a Pacer. The Pacer was like an upside down goldfish bowl on wheels. Not enough metal there to comfortably roll the car. We later found an old Hornet X body and caused chaos with it, but that's another story. Good point, Bob. Last time I rolled a car was in 1985. I hit a sand dune @ 90 MPH in Pontiac Bonneville. I drank a lot back then, too. ;;D TomM |
