CH family,

After my visit to NECH next Thursday I'm headed to the big apple for a couple of days. Need input on where is the best hotel(s), what are their names, etc. for someone that has never been to the big apple!!!

will have rental car that i may regret once i'm done at nech!!! hehe

i want a nice hotel with a view and near STUFF!!

Been there 3 times in the 1980s so about all I can remember is High Dollar, just about anywhere you stay. Back then a small room at a holiday in was $150.00 a night and that was low rent. I would ditch the rent car, more trouble than their worth, take a taxi.

If you want smack in the middle of town, that's Times Square.
Michaelangelo (very nice!), the Marriott, right IN Times Square near all the Broadway shows, etc, The Crowne Plaza, also in the same area, the Hilton, a little closer to Carnegie Hall on 6th..

A little closer to Central Park, the Ritz-Carlton, with a view of the park...

If you like downtown, near the "Village" that's a little more bohemian, try names with "Tribeca", "Soho" or Chelsea" in the title. You will be near art galleries, and upscale-crowd downtown eateries. If you go down there try Nobu or Blue Ribbon ( my favorite) if you like Sushi.

Let me know if you need any more info, I got tons.. .. I'm All over this city ;)

I've already booked the hilton at times square...is that a good place?

Where can I find actors in NY, outside of going to a play that is, wanna see the ocean, statue of liberty, ground zero, empire state bldg., what else??

This sounds like fun Renee!!

On Wednesday, I performed in the Lincoln Center with my choir and the school of musical theatre here, and we stayed in the Mayflower Hotel right on Central Park West and 62nd street. It was pretty cool...veryyyyyyyy old. When I was in high school, I went to NYC to play in Carnegie Hall, and we stayed in the Mariott Marquis..all paid for by my school!!! That kicked ass!

Other than that, I've always stayed at my aunt's house in Pelham Manor.

Hope your appointment is good and that you have a GREAT time!!!

I'm at the end of my rope and hopefully NECH can help! They read my radiology reports and the MRI/MRA films and called for me to be there next week!

At this point, I'm willing to do anything to stop the chronic pain!

Hopefully, the old head will agree and allow me a couple of days in the Big Apple to get lost, be made fun of due to my texas accent, freeze cause it's still cold there, and find somethin' to eat besides raw fish...hehe

Aww I sure hope you catch a break and can have some fun. :)

I know that a lot of times, the trips away help me deal with the pain, even when the pain doesn't stop. At least I'm doing something that I want to do...I've done a lot of stuff in spite of that pain just because I refuse to let it win.

Sure do hope that it works out well!!! Maybe I'll join the NECH crew at some point....had about enough of UMDNJ and I only went there twice! I have my 3rd appointment this Wednesday. Ever since my really good neuro left the country last fall, I haven't found anybody I could work with that well. Sucks, doesn't it?

Well good luck and I hope you have a blast! Take pictures :)

I agree with Lee...ditch the rental car. If you've never driven in NYC, you don't want to start now. The traffic is crazy, you are much better off in a cab.

ok...changed car reservations! Will be turning in car on Friday when i return to NYC from CT and trying the taxi/subway thingy...oh god i'm gonna get SO lost!

Hehe Renee... I forget sushi is not everybody's favorite.. ;;D

The Hilton is good... very close to the Broadway action. I think Lizzie hit it dead on with the Marriott.. that's smack in the middle of Times Square... can't get a better view of the action. Don't forget to stroll down 42nd street, its somewhat of tourist trap but well worth it. Oh, and No, its not a hooker street anymore.. :D

For actors.. do you mean you want to do celebrity spotting or what? If you want to see off off b'way type stuff... head down to the village. comedy clubs off the side streets, (walk East from 6th ave. and West 4th), lounges, clubs... all types of music, etc, etc, etc....
P.S. 122 (Public Space 122) might be showing some performance art or show, walk down St. Mark's Place/8th street/ towards 2nd Ave., west Broadway. (Hint: 12th ave. is the West side, 1st Ave. is the East).
Lots of things to see including the people, "alternative" everything, and a very cool laid back atmosphere. Soho, Noho - Tribeca, Chelsea... all very close downtown stuff.

57th Street...Le Bar Bat (east side), great night club/lounge, with live blues/jazz /and philly bands, .. the Brooklyn Diner, Ruby's good place for music and eats..

I dunno.. what else?? ;;D

Food.. Spark's, excellent restaurant of the moment, Cuba de Asia, Peter Luger's (a short jaunt over the Williamsburg bridge in a cab). So many to choose from! Those don't involve raw fish...

I think you're going to have a great time.

Why am I cracking up? Because I am just visualizing a Texan, in The City, trying to understand the New York accent when it comes out of the mouths of the foreign taxi drivers' mouth!!!!

Right. Ditch the car. A waste of money and a PITA. Take a look at Rockefeller Center, skaters, shows if you like, and if you want to climb another building, it has a neat city view that not many ever see. Different. Not sure the deck is still open though. Go to some stores, museums, New York has the best food in the world. Even the water is pretty good.

What kind of food do you like to eat?

If you want a nice, classic meal one night, I recommend the Four Seasons for the overall experience. It was the first "fine dining" restaurant in NYC and still has the most impressive dining room, especially if you get there early while it's still daylight and are there while it gets dark. They do have pre-theater dinner menu and ignore it about desert, they will let you order whatever flavor soufle you want. They also have a GIANT Picassso that he did for a backdrop.

What activities are you interested in? Museums? Shows? Statue of Liberty? WTC site? Empire State Bldg?

Aw No way! Gee, its only been a few months since I last went there.

Rockefeller Center is nice, and St. Patrick's Cathedral is right around the corner from it. I think you might be able to catch the Flower show at Rockefeller Plaza - it is up this week... dont know how long it will go. I'll check it out , I only work a few blocks away, and let ya know. Don't forget to visit Saks and Bergdorf's.. ;;D
