Title: Am I the only one that does this??
Post by Melissa on Apr 2nd, 2004, 1:56pm
When I'm reading a magazine, watching T.V. or come across sites on the internet with pictures of famous people, whether it be celebrity or polititian, I look for the telltale droopy eye.  It's so weird, either they take a really bad picture, or there's actually famous people out there with clusters that probably don't wanna admit they have them.  Does anyone else come across pics like these, and think to themselves, "I wonder if they have clusters??"

editing to correct what I said, I don't actually LOOK for the droopy eye, I just NOTICE it... ;;D

Yep... your the only one...

Actually, i remember seeing a story about "droopy eyes" and how faces need to be asymetrical to be attractive. I remember them showing people like Brad Pitt and a few others that have one eye a bit smaller, and how it accentuates their looks...
Personally my right eye is slightly "drooped" compared to my left. I think cuz I got hit in high school so fuckin hard it practically knocked me out... But my ch side is the left, so when I'm ch'ing they actually kind of equal out.

;;D I was watching the Loretta Lynn story, Coleminers daughter, and it got to the part about her headaches and I thought, I bet she has clusters ::)

Mel, your not weird sis so hush Echo  :P LOL Mel if your weird then what the hell am I? Dont answer that!!! LOL I do it too. Ive gone as far as writing letters and asking if they have CH. Of course I get a nice letter back from the fan club prez. that I really dont know and we'll get back to you on this and OF course they never do. I know there is SOMEONE out there thats famous that suffers from CH but they aint saying a word!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR If we could find just 1 famous person that has CH it would be a great thing IMHO.

I think Loretta was just hung over !

And yep I think you are the only one. I have never tried to pick out another cluster person because of their eyes.
If they walked around swearing to themselves outloud and holding their head and every once in awile fall to the floor screaming then I might wonder if they have clusters. Like those homeless people on the streets of Chicago . They arent crazy they have a CH and it wont be long we are just like them.

I don't actually go purposely looking for a droopy eye, I'll just be like reading my People magazine, and as I come across a stars pic, if one of their eyes is doing the droopy thang I can't help but notice it!  It then makes me wonder if they might have ch's.....

Nope, Skinny, you're not the only one - I do it all the time.  In fact, I bet MOST supporters do it.  I can tell from a photograph - like on BobP's pics page.  I can even tell you which side they get hit on!  I think that's one of the first things supporters look for in their sufferers, kind of a cluster guage!

Mike took a chip of hardwood to the eye the other day at work (no safety goggles!  grr!! :o) and the minute he walked in the door, I asked him if he was having a cluster.  Opposite eye to his normal one, but it sure looked like he was in the middle of an attack!  His eye's ok now, but it's still kinda red.

That gal who played the judge on Ally McBeal - Dyan Cannon - SHE's got cluster eye!  I remember posting about that on the old board.

See Mel?  you're not weird.  Well, mebbe a lil bit but we still love you! ;)

I always thought that the camera guy caught them in a half blink.

Or they just have too much time and money to live the party life and had a rough night last night.

It must be hell for them , the way people take horrible pictures and exploit them.

I would never be able to handle it. I would have and anxiety attack every hour.

If there is one here, hiding under a "handle" speak up for your family, and get some work done.

Forrest Whittaker comes to mind?!?

:)Melissa...hi.   I was just having discussion with fellow ch'er about this....   to me, there is a certain KNOWING look in the eye, a kind of glint..or glimmer...or something,   that only people with ch or their supporters will ever recognize.
What I do know for sure, is this.   If you look at convention or M&G pics, you WILL see this.   Or maybe we are just all exhausted  lol.    Nope, it's there, part of the innate bonding, I guess.         sorry to have to know this...karen ;;D

also...I work in a very public place,   I have lately found myself 'searching' the eyes of people, thinking I will see THAT particular ...er, well,     LOOK.   Know what I mean?

Well..I just met Pittsburgh Joe for the first time yesterday...he came to my store. First time in my life I ever met a clusterhead in person. Any how...I think we were kinda acting like weird little kids...staring at eachother to see what we saw in eachother's eyes and faces. Well long story short...he looks normal..I think he'll live!!!!  But...it was very neat.    Luke

Thats so cool Luke, nothing like it! I am still smiling from meeting a fellow cluster head a few weeks ago ;;D ;;D and from a few weeks before that ;;D

Melissa, I do the same even though I am pretty sure they would not be smiling in the photographs if they had ch let alone be out in the public eye, but hey you never know! The eyes are the mirror to our soul!!!

I am not crazy, dammit!!  [smiley=moon.gif]

btw, if you check on Bob P's page, I've noticed that lots of us have one eye that squints more than the other when smiling.....

I am not crazy, dammit!

Hi!
I have not done the celebs thing, and have never met another cluster head.

However, U defnitely have a point there. As sure as the difference btween night and day.I blieve that all cluster heads on close examination, will find that their left eye will look different from their right eye.

Mine is.

My CH eye (right side) is currently black and blue in all directions. Would you consider that a telltale sign?

I sort of agree with Jonny that you can't really tell unless someone is under attack.

Then I remember Riccardos eyes.  So I'm kinda on the fence here.

I've never looked for anything like that.  We all do our own little stuff though.

Riccardo's a really good example, Luinda - kind of a textbook example, really.  It's not just the droopy eyelid, though - it's the pupils becoming different size (from each other, one is large, the other constricted - to me THAT's cluster eyes.)

When Mike was in remission, his eyes would remain normal - pupils the same size all the time, just during attacks would they change.  However, after his 2nd last cycle, that condition has remained even through remission.  He'll go through silent attacks, no pain, but the pupils will change size.  Usually, this happens at the same time every day (just like regular attacks) and stay like that for about 45 minutes (just like regular attacks), then go back to normal.  He can't tell but I can.  It's like he's become a "silent" chronic.  Too bad he's not chronically silent!  LOL  don't tell him I said that!  ;)

I think this is something that supporters are more familiar with and are better able to recognize, maybe.  We see it a lot more often than sufferers do.  I know not all sufferers have this condition when they are out of cycle,  but there definitely is a "look" when they are in cycle, not just under attack.   It's hard to describe.
