That IS interesting Justin!
Poor bastard. I'm not a big NBA fan but for whatever reason I've kind of followed him since his college days @ Illinois.
Hope he finds his way here.

That would be great if we can get him into OUCH. At the bottom of the article it said that the team raised money for Charities, do you think they would be willing to raise money for cluster headaches since one of their own has it?

Cootie - I would think that you would be able to contact the PR person for the Team. That would get you pointed int he right direction.

Now that I think of it... Remember the last super bowl Shannon Sharpe was in?
He got nailed with them too...
They didn't specifically say clusters, but he's pretty tough, I'd bet he could play with any headache but a cluster.

An update to get in contact with Mr. Gill....

I just got off the phone with the head office at the United Center in Chicago.....

We need to draft a letter and address it to:

Kendal Gill
C/O Chicago Bulls
United Center
1901 West Madison Street
Chicago, IL 60612

This letter will be presented to Mr. Gill and it will be up to him as to whether he will respond, get involved, etc.

Peace,

So here's the deal,  if we can't get him, then one of us has to become famous so we can promote the cause!  Who's up for it?  hehe

Thanks for sharing that article, Justin!!  Just goes to show that no human can escape the bad crap in life too.

He may already be here. Who knows! Not everyone post and maybe he don't want us to know who he is.
If he isn't we should help him send him a T-Shirt and a hug. He is in pain famous or not he needs to know he isn't alone.

Title: More on Kendal Gill
Post by floridian on Apr 2nd, 2004, 3:13pm

Quote:
Gill won't quit: To help soothe his throbbing head, Kendall Gill sat at his locker before the game listening to soft music on his headphones and reading a magazine titled, "The Navy SEAL Workout."

Gill said he has been plagued by headaches since he was scratched in the eye at Philadelphia on March 6. He missed a game against Milwaukee on Friday with a headache.

"I've had cluster headaches ever since I was a kid," he said. "When I got the eye injury in Philly, it just started off, because I hadn't had one in like five years."

Gill, 35, wouldn't reveal specific plans for next season, but retirement is not on his agenda. Chances are, he won't be offered a chance to return to the Bulls.

"I won't retire," Gill said. "I still have a lot left in the tank. I haven't done what I wanted to do. I still haven't won yet. That's the name of the game. I want to go out on top."

I emailed the writer of the story and told him that we could help him. I said there are other meds out there that are not steroids that could help him. I gave him the link to this web site and said we are willing to help him teach his doctor about this malady. I asked him to forward the email to him.

Thanks for the post and this is a nice idea. We need to get him a T-Shirt ASAP. It would be nice if we can get him here too. Elaine may be right about him having been here of course. We have to remember that a lot of people say they don't have time for this kind of thing. Sports figures like him, rightly or wrongly, may feel this way. Most doctors say the same thing about the internet and with their schedules, they have a point.

Letters to him should be two short paragraphs. Three at the very most. Trust me.

This kind of spokesman would be invaluable.

Do you think Gill's agent would ever let him fess up to cluster headaches?  Nope, they'll minimize his diagnosis to something else to keep his contracts viable.

He's probably already here on this site a'lurkin.

Cripes!  OUCH is not gonna look for committee approval!  Is this how OUCH is really perceived?  Like a bunch of red tape, confusion and clutteredness??  I sure as hell hope not.  We just wanna send out a professional letter, that's all.  You know, I do take offense to the above quoted remarks because they supposedly reflect on my abilites, as I do work for OUCH.

Hap, I'll let the tomatoes slide...for now, LOL!  I guess I'm just having a really bad day today, which doesn't happen often.  I got a cranky 9month old baby, and a 9yr old who was home from school because she was puking all day, and a husband who is bitchy because he's on 3rd shift this week.  WTF?

Anyhow, if my posts seem blunt and humorless, at least now ya know why! ;)

I think that a letter should be INVITING him here - letting him know we're here.... letting him know there's better advice than what he's been given.   Letting him know there are people who suffer with him also.

i DO NOT think jumping RIGHt in and telling and asking HIM for something - like being a spokesman, or a donation - or anything - would be a good idea.

Just let him know we're here, let him know what OUCH does and stands for and what it's goals are.  Let him know there are other medications he may not know about.  That we're sorry he has to deal with the beast.  Then let him make up his mind.......

Elaines right - famous or not - he's suffering.   We should not ask him for ANYTHING right away.  We dont wanna scare him away.

just my two cents....

Woobs,

As always, I agree with you 100%, and stand by your side at all times (that way, you'll keep smacking Ramon and leave me the hell alone).

On the other hand, for all Mr. Gill makes, does, etc., he's just another poor suck dropped to his knees by CH. Happens to the best of us.

Let him know we're here, one way or another. Apparently, his career is on hold too.

Lead `em to water,

Post by Melissa on Apr 2nd, 2004, 7:48pm
Tina, I highly doubt OUCH is going to ask him for anything.  The most we'll probably do is send a letter telling him about our org. and what it does for people.  Yes, it is a plus he is a public figure, but OUCH is alive for one reason, and that is to help clusterheads!  Besides, I know if it were me in the limelight, I'd want to help others like me anyway I can! (which I hope I'm doing now!)

Oxygen is one of the things I can almost garantee he's tried....whether or not it was for the actuall treatment of CH is another matter.

It is common for athletes to breathe oxygen between minutes of play time (especially basketball players). It may acually be one of the things that has kept him PF for some time without his actually realizing it.

Woobs is right, tell the man where and who we are and let him make up his own mind. Keep in mind this guy has mad income, so to bother him with money and representation issues would be detrimental to our wishes, I'm sure he has enough of that without our input.

Post by BlueMeanie on Apr 2nd, 2004, 8:48pm
I think an e-mail should be sent letting him know about OUCH. That's it. If he has clusters, let him read read read like the rest of us. He can then make his own decision to join OUCH or help in any way he chooses. I wouldn't try pressuring him into anything like wearing shirts or whatever. If clusters have effected his life like the rest of us, he would volunteer his services whatever way he sees fit.

I know this sounds stupid but if OUCH is going to send out a professional letter to him....let's first verify the spelling of his first name.  The article spells it with 2 L's.   Like I said, I know you all probably think I'm being trite but even at work I feel the least I can do when I correspond with my customers is spell their name correctly.  :)

Really good News...;-)

The email letter option is a really good idea...  For sure something must be done or tried...but before...something must be planned and a strategy must be defined... I dont think it's a matter of time but rather a question of approach... I think this must be discuss between a groups of interested persons... I know it will;-)

42 posts with the thread named after the guy and 10 discuss helping a fellow cluster sufferer.

Yeah, sure hope he's reading. I'm sure it'll warm his heart to read this thread.

Kendall,
Could you please stop sitting out games? It's been three in a row now and it would help a great deal if you'd not only play but while on the court, could you please stop on a fast break, drop to your knees and bang your head on the floor for us. We could use the footage for a PSA.

Thanks in advance

Dude, look at it like this. Like some of the stuffs over on OUCH Pink is way down the road, but he is light years ahead of most of them. Last I knew he is from Chi Town and just might know more about the situation than the rest of us, when he speaks he normally doe's. Besides that he may have got ahold of the buttermilk this morning by mistake. Did you ever do that!  ;;D
