Title: Went to ER today.... Post by Reese on Apr 1st, 2004, 10:11am I went to hospital with intention of getting cat scan or mri but could not get them to do either test. I explained about my cluster h/a and lately the pain has been different, more lingering shadows and no break in cycle for 3 months. He said until I try different types of medicines to releive the pain its not necessary for those tests. He said "It would be bad practice if he was to do ct or mri seeing as I have not tried medicines yet, besides oxygen to abort". I was getting pissed and told him I need peice of mind and please perform ct or mri on my head today,I have insurance. He still insisted there was no reason to take the tests. Im baffled now. Why the fuck would they not do this test,I even stretched the truth and told them I was in some pain for 3 days straight with no releif when in reality my headaches come for about 1 hour EVERYDAY only lately I cant predict the time Ill get hit. I am searching for a new neurologist because my current nuero is a dick with no cluster headache experience. Even stopped at chiropractic office on way home to see if they ever treated cluster headaches before, and they did have a pamphlet on cluster h/as and said they do have patients with ch that have been releived of pain, but Im skeptical on this route. Help me out. |

Title: Re: Went to ER today.... Post by Jeepgun on Apr 1st, 2004, 2:12pm Go see a neurologist and tell him that you would like an MRI and CT scan to rule out the possibility of any brain tumors that could be causing your cluster headaches. Any neurologist (and any physician, for that matter!) would FIRST have you take those tests before prescribing anything! My best advice: See a neurologist. If s/he doesn't refer you to the CT/MRI lab, then find a different neurologist. Keep going until you find one that actually gives a shit and has their head dislodged from their ass. |

Title: Re: Went to ER today.... Post by Superpain on Apr 1st, 2004, 2:24pm Not only that, but seek a neuro that is a headache specialist. Ask when you call the office if they are trained and practiced in treatment of clusters. The ER is the last place you should go expecting help for a cluster... |

Title: Re: Went to ER today.... Post by cathy on Apr 1st, 2004, 2:29pm Reese....stretching the truth and saying that your pain was constant for days wasn't exactly gonna help your cause if you we're hoping to be diagnosed with CH... better if you stick to the facts with the neurologist otherwise you may get a mis diagnosis....hope you get some help..one way or another... Unless you have a history of addiction, you certainly don't need to worry about taking four Lortabs while in pain. It's not like you take one and then are physically dependent or psychologically crave another. There are a lot of misconceptions about pain medication, even on the part of physicians. Imaging tests are indicated for atypical headaches. It's the standard of care. I hope for his sake that you don't have a problem that imaging studies would have revealed and that there are consequences to his neglect because then you have an excellent malpractice case. |
