Title: Clusters and Personality
Post by Lissa on Mar 26th, 2004, 5:22pm
I've noticed this for quite awhile but  never said anything.  People with cluster headaches have quite the sense of humor.  Is that trait a result of cluster headaches or a cause?   ;;D

I've always believed that we CHers need something more to laugh at to get through the crap.

Have you also noticed that Clusterheads have addictive personalities as well.....but then again who doesn't.
so my point is moot. I'll shuddup now.
Shit I make one attempt at playing armchair pshyciatrist and I argue with myself.....there's something very wrong with me.

well, humor is (either enjoying it, creating it, or both) a demonstration of creativity. Isn't there some mention of clusterheads having higher than average creativity as compared to the general population? Or maybe I just dreamed reading that somewhere.

As far as addictive personalities, I suppose one could argue that that in itself is also tied to "being creative" in a different way.

I don't participate in a lot off discussion groups, but of the ones i have been in, I do see far more creativity here than anywhere else. So many of the threads here just crack me up! And a good majority of the serious threads are very well and thoughtfully written.

Besides, after recovering from a nice high-kip dance, how can you not laugh when you think about all the weird things you just did? Yes, there is even laughter in pain - hence the popularity of clips with guys getting thier balls hit. Yes, it's painful, but like a fart, it is always funny.

Why do they call that shooting pain that burns down your arm "hitting your funny bone"?

Yeah, and if one more person makes me laugh on this board, I'm gonna flame'um.

Dude,

After nearly 30 years of this shit I dont come here to whine, I make it a point to try to make these people laugh and have a few myself. Noone knows what we deal with so we must deal on our own for now, we must laugh at each other and even pick on each other just like any family does.

For a dude that was deadly afraid of flying I logged 26,000 miles meeting clusterheads after I landed here.

  Anybody here an executive?!

You gotta wonder.

That we aren't sociopaths or all in prison for mowing down a Burger King, can be thought of as amusing. We must be a pretty stable bunch. I get all my material here. Don't know what I'd do without the board and its brain-damaged populace.

You people kill me most of the time.

I have been reliably informed that my having a personality is in question by responsible people who know me.
My mom allways liked my brother best. So I'm looking for a second opinion. [smiley=smartass.gif]

Personality is in the eyes of the beholder.

Eight posts!!!

You've just arrived.

Well as Root, you seem to be reaching and searching throught the dirt.  And along with any worms and grubs, you found me.

You're new to me man.   ;;D

There are thousands of members here and tens of posters.  Be careful drawing any conclusions from the sample size of those who post.  Could skew the results a lot.   ;;D

Most eople who have to deal with one extreme will also show signs of going to extremes in all parallel situations. This, because we deal with so much pain, we also express excess of happiness - that is a big part of why we are so very expressive in our laughter.

I determined that I have two choices:  Either to laugh or to cry, and crying causes waterspots on my new ties! ;;D

I choose to laugh at myself.  Everyone else does, and I don't like to be left out.

I agree.....personally I also am more likely to try new things that may lead to enjoyment than I did before CH found me. I take more risks. I'm more likely to make things happen...  Damifino why.

A very unscientific observation on my part....
Clusterheads tend to share the following traits...

  • Pain
  • Humor
  • Depression
  • High IQ
  • Stomach Problems
  • Divorce
  • Poor
  • Faithful
  • Drinkers
  • Smokers
  • Horny
  • Long-Haired  ;;D
  • Damn fine folk
  • Did I mention pain?

What say you?

Mark,

I agree with your "unscientific" observation. We seem to share these traits if nothing else.

How many people can find humor with bringing an O2 tank into a bar where everyone is smoking? Or comparing the weirdest Bruise from a night with the beast?

Only here can we laugh at our affliction. We're a SICK bunch of idiots!!! But we're loveable......

Hugs BD

Well, since I'm just a supporter, and I"ve met a lot of you, I have some "unscientific observations" of my own.... from the "other side.

GENEROUS - You all would give a fellow clusterhead
anything they need - anytime... it's amazing!

CARING - you all care about the family

WITTY - funny as hell.

BOLD - and by this I mean - you all are NOT afraid to
               say what's on your mind...

LOUD - atrium (it's an IOWA thing, if you weren't here,
               you may not understand!)

PARTY  - Ya'll can party your asses off!!  - atrium again

SLEEP PROBLEMS - and I dont mean when your'e
dealing with the beast.  I've noticed a lot of
         people have sleep disorders here....

DEPRESSION/ANXIETY DisORderS - again - either
         because of clusters or not.

And most of you men have awesome wives!   *snicker*

There ya go.

I love you guys!!!

Humor  -  yes

Depression -  sometimes, when I'm really worn down

High IQ  -  Fairly high, but I'm far from being a genious

Stomach Problems   - Ulcer

Divorce  - nope, only married once and still there

Poor  - with 2 small children, damn right I'm poor

Faithful  - of course. Dont fuck with my friends, cause I will make you sorry you woke up breathing

Drinkers  - Very little, gave that up in College, but a rum and coke is nice every now and then

Smokers   - 8 years ago, but I'd start again if I ever smoke just one.

Horny  - I prefer to think of it as practising - Only plan on having the two kids and no more, but you have to keep working on technique.  ;;D

Long-Haired  -   half way down my back, so sure.

Damn fine folk - proud to call you family

Have to agree with Woobie and add sleep problem, even if the beast does not come to visit one night I am still up at 3am no matter what.

Pain  Yes. Lots of pain in this lifetime, but so far, I have thrived.

Humor  Hell yeah! It's part of who I am and it's a coping mechanism, a way of blowing off steam, and it's a lot better than screaming and spiralling into despair.

Depression  I used to be suicidal... BUT I'M ALL BETTER NOW!!! ;;D

High IQ   I am a member of MENSA. 'nuff said.

Stomach Problems   I fart a lot. Does that count?

Divorce    No thanks.

Poor   Not really. Content, for the most part, and with enough money to do most of the things in life that I want to do.

Faithful   Loyalty is my favorite vice... Last of the fargin' Mohicans, and most of the time, to my own detriment.

Drinkers   The occasional glass of scotch...

Smokers    Yep.

Horny    Only on weekdays that end in the letter "y" :-X ;;D

Long-Haired    Nope. Most of the time, my hair is barely long enough to pull.

Sleep Disorders: I've been told that I stop breathing for long periods of time, or that I slow down to breathing only once per minute. When I was informed of this, I blinked and said, "I was only out and about!"

Intuitive/Clairvoyant: Yes. Sometimes disturbingly so.  :-[

Damn fine folk  Well, in my humble opinion, FUCKIN' A!!!  [smiley=thumb.gif]
