Ran out of 02 the other night and did a real nice version of my k10 dance. This one ended with me on my knees and my head on the floor muttering god knows what. After the ordeal was over my wife commented that it sounded like I was speaking in tongues near the end of the attack. That got me to thinking, do ya suppose it's possible that people throughout history who have deemed to be speaking in tongues were just clusterheads doing their dance in public?

Probably, along with a few people burned for being witches and institutionalized for insanity. Quite a bit of addiction to pain-relieving substances throughout history might be attributable to CH, too. And many suicides.

Seem to recall something in the bible about plucking your eye out if it offends you, too. Might be CH-inspired....

I also have wondered if there is some relationship to autism considering the headbanging and other self-destructive behavior.

Personally I think there is a connection between epilepsy and clusters. The seizures just manifest themselves differently. Topomax is an epilepsy drug and some docs prescribe it for clusters. And a lot of epilectic seizures start during sleep/wake stages.

The MD who first diagnosed me said to think of a CH attack as a "vascular seizure". Still makes some sense to me. Definitely it's neurological in origin but I don't know much about the detailed processes involved in epileptic seizures.

Hey, Vascular Seizures - not a bad tag for CH instead of HEADACHES!

And it makes sense - a lot of drugs are anti-seizure meds that help with CH.

But I do like that VASCULAR SEIZURES -- sounds a lot better (more intense) and maybe it would get a little more attention and I'll bet no one would say, Oh I had one of those one time - they're awful!!!

Could be. Extreme pain can overload the nervous system and lead to unusual behavior. The disruptions in the neurotransmitters and brain anatomy could make cluster heads more susceptible to epileptic activity. Not sure that this has been studied in depth.

I think there is a connection between epilepsy and "speaking in tongues." The original mandate for the followers of Jesus to go out and speak in tongues referred to spreading the news in many languages - foreign tongues. Glossalalia (the so called 'prayer language' or 'speaking in tongues') is seen in many religions (including Voudou, African animism, Innuit religion, and Shinto in Japan) and there is no evidence it was practiced by early Christians.

I seem to remember reading that people were accused of being possessed or witches when they inadvertently ate too much ergotamine from eating infected wheat and danced about screeching and ranting.

Wasn't that something to do with St Vitus' dance or something.

Oh god along w/ most of us , I too can relate , my husband has been staring at me and saying" I dont know what you were saying " after I had experienced an attack. I do believe along w/ the other posts though, maybe the witches in Salem were C/H sufferers. I found myself at times not being able to make any sense and bluttering out sylables. It happens...

At the top of a K10, my behaviour if seen in public would be characterized as insane. Vascular seizures...I love that name!

What does a cluster attack look like? Any of you fans of Angel the TV series? Well whenever one of the original characters "Cordelia" was getting a "vision",she looked like she was in extreme pain, holding her eye, with the palm of her hand. Of course this only lasts a few seconds, but people can relate the to the sight of pain by the actress. Then of course you tell them, yeah, like that 30 min - 2 hours at a time, 4-10 times a day, 6-8 weeks a cycle and that is if you're episodic, cause you could be chronic....

I don't think there is any relationship at all. I attend a church where we speak in toungues and I promise you my church is not 1000 people all with cluster headaches.

Read the book of ACTS in the bible. In ACTS chapter 1 120 apostles and disciples and Jesus mother Mary were all filled with the Holy Ghost as evidenced in speaking in other tounges. On the day of Pentecost 3,000 men (not including women or children) spoke in toungues and were filled with the Holy Ghost. Later a group of 5,000 men were filled with the Holy Ghost evidenced by speaking in tougues. Latter a senturian soldiers whole household recieved the Holy Ghost evidenced by speaking in toungues. Simon the sourcerer who latter became an apostle at first when he heard people speaking in tougues after people laid hands on them wanted to buy this power. He was quickly converted. You will find many examples throughout this book where it gives great detail of christians speaking in toungues.

I love Vascular Seizures! There was a small conversation about a better name for cluster headaches in another post, but this is definitely on the right track. How about Vascular Brain Seizures?

Speaking in tongues? Well, yes. FRAZZBAZZ and GRYZORNISICH are just two that Judy has related to me while fighting the beast while I TRY o sleep thru an attack. Vascular seizures... love the term. So what do we do to get it universally adopted?

Swearing in tongues maybe. That's cool but not as satisfying. It's a puzzlement. :o

Epilepsy and CH related? I have seizures but my CH has been gone for 13 years and I really don't think so. Too bad in a way because epileptics are much better treated by the medical profession. Everybody knows one or two epileptics, few if any CHers.

Off and on in history, some epileptics were treated as divinely inspired or often members of the dark legions of Satan. Ah me....For want of a better term, epilepsy can be called short circuit of a kind.

Calling CH vascular isn't new here. I use it and circulatory in my posting. How about a syndrome of kind? Vascular works well.
