Title: Re: Chronics Only..... Post by Mac on Mar 15th, 2004, 3:12pm I'm fairly new to the board and clusters but I would think that trying acupuncture would have been a no brainer years ago and if the results were good I'd have heard about it as a treatment. It would have been nice if it were a little more specific about what type severe chronic headaches they're talking about. Maybe this article was written by a relative of an acupuncturist. :-/ |

Title: Re: Chronics Only..... Post by BarbaraD on Mar 15th, 2004, 3:29pm Been there / done that. It didn't work for me - in fact after the treatment, I'd usually have a really good one. Finally got tired of that and quit going to acupuncture. In that article, I loved the part about it working so good, "especialy on migraines" - It just didn't work worth a darn on "CLUSTERS" Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Chronics Only..... Post by AlienSpaceGuy on Mar 16th, 2004, 11:05pm Some people read only the general board and rarely find the way to the medical board. Therefore, I repeat here what I'v posted over there: It's a damn conspiracy of the Chinese communists to overthrow the world. Same goal, but subtler methods as Al Kaida. In a concerted action they try to weaken the western peoples. By sucking them to try some bogus hankypanky, as worthless as the general understanding of nature of the time of its origin 3000 years ago. In addition to the 'studies' on acupuncture in Australia and in the USA, reported about on these boards, there is also a gigantic 'study' under way in Germany. But before I tell you about it, let me recall the methods used to evaluate new medicaments or procedures in modern western medicine: Test are made in a double blind procedure, that is neither the treating physician nor the patient know whether the real thing or a placebo is given. This is to exclude any expectations or prejudices, positive or negative, by the evaluating doctor and the patient. Double blind studies are the corner stones for accepting or rejecting any new treatment in modern western medicine. Now to the German studies. Yes, in plural: There are three concurrent large 'studies' on acupuncture under way, partly for different conditions, partly overlapping. Coincidence? Not if you look at the communist China connection. Let's take a closer look at the studies for back pain, knee arthrosis, tension headaches and meegraines: About 1000 patients are splitted into 3 groups:
Some results for meegraine patients: In one study there was no significant different outcome with or without acupuncture. But in another, the verum-acupuncture brought for 44% of the patients at least a 50% improvement of meegraine pain. A strange difference? Maybe because of the 'highly scientific' methods used, who knows? In Germany the communist agents not only weaken the people with their useless scam, there is also a massive transfer of money to the communist agents: The 1.2 million (yes, 1,200,000) probands get the needlework for free, the bill is paid by the public health insurances, financed by all assured (by law: everybody) and the treasury. Get out your pocket calculator and multiply: 1.2 million probands times $40 per session times on the average 12 sessions...... A really crafty scheme to let the people pay to get infiltrated by enemy agents. (BTW, Germany has 82M inhabitants). Horror vision: If acupuncture should become accepted to treat CH, add to the currents average of 6.8 years a clusterhead has to suffer needlessly until he gets proper treatment a few years for the attempts to exorcize the demon by puncturing the skin of the sufferer. :-[ Beware of scams, even if they survived 3000 years. Title: Re: Chronics Only..... Post by Lizzie2 on Mar 17th, 2004, 1:15pm Someone posted a similar story on another headache board about seeing (maybe the same article?) over on yahoo. At any rate, what she said was that she will only believe in a "cure" when Peter Jennings breaks into whatever show she is watching at the time to announce it. I thought that was hilarious!! Whether it works or it doesn't work...claiming a cure is just plain wrong! My former neuro told me there was no real convincing literature on the treatment of various headache types with acupuncture. Barbara, the AFDB (or "foil hats" as you call them) are the best preventative I have found. Just because a particular treatment doesn't fit into your view of the world or has't worked for you personally doesn't mean you should discourage other people from trying it. ;;D |

There are two schools of thought on that. For me, shiny-side out provides the best protection. But these damned things are sneaky and you might have better luck with the shiny-side in. Also play around with how it fits over your ears until you find the right configuration. When I'm getting hit bad it sometimes helps to have a bit of a brim extending over my eye on the CH side, but that doesn't always work so it might be unrelated. I don't feel any difference in pointing the peak or squishing it flat. A lot of people have found a 3 to 4 inch peak twisted clock-wise works best, but I don't really have anything to contribute to that aspect. You might also try some of the better-quality commercial foils--some of them even come already cut into a convenient size. The gold and red rolls that you can get on sale after Christmas are good for when you have a job interview or some other business or formal event. Some of them even have designs printed on them. Good luck! |

Title: Re: Chronics Only..... Post by BobG on Mar 18th, 2004, 6:32am The little lady and I are going to the big Elvis tribute show next week. It's going to be a real biggie. Wayne Newton is the MC (hey, this is Vegas) and the Flyin' Elvi will make an appearance. It's an outdoor gig poolside at the Motel 6. I needed a nice dress shirt so we made a trip to the 99-cent store. While we were there I noticed a lot of foil products. You know, pie tins, cookie sheets, etc. Well they have some big ones for cooking a turkey. They're shiny inside and out. And long enough that if worn forward on the head it's keep the sun out of your eyes. I made a nice chin strap outa duct tape. A coupla questions. 1. Will a foil turkey-rooster-cookin'-pan be an ok substitute for a foil hat? 2. I'm like Mac and don't want to look like an idiot. Do ya'll think the turkey pan hat is formal enough to wear to the Elvis show? I could wear my best bowling shirt with it or I could wear the new dress shirt. |
