Title: Re: If you HAD to: my poll Post by Jayne on Mar 10th, 2004, 6:04pm I'd have to say any of yoos guys. In fact I think the only person (another clusterhead) I had one in front of was Deej. Even then I went in another room to be alone. It has alway been my luck to have attacks in front of the most ignorant people. I have even hidden in my closet at home with my o2 tank when people were over. I once had a guy over (like you do) and he was err...staying the night. He did not know about my condition. Well I got slammed at 1.30 am. I crept out of bed and hid in my closet with the tank. I am in the dark, naked in my closet huffing away and rocking...next thing I hear was my errr. "date" from the bed shouting..."Jayne...what are you doing?" "Re- arranging my shoes!!!" I yell back He never asked me out on another "date" after that ;;D Some people are just so sensitive ::) |

Title: Re: If you HAD to: my poll Post by BobG on Mar 10th, 2004, 6:04pm Anyone that has the sense to leave me alone. I would want the person that will just get me a bag of ice and then walk away. Someone that won't try to talk to me or touch me. That could probably be you Linda. |

Title: Re: If you HAD to: my poll Post by Linda_Howell on Mar 10th, 2004, 6:14pm Thank you Bob. Another person I'd want to be around if I HAD to.... Would be Steve. (KOP) Not only is he the nicest guy in the world, but when I got hit in front of him...it was like we were in sync. He knew the "LOOK" He knew what to do. PERFECT. It felt O.K. if you know what I mean. Linda |

Title: Re: If you HAD to: my poll Post by catlind on Mar 10th, 2004, 6:50pm I still am not comfortable in the presence of others, it's a thing that's hard to explain. I find I am always fighting an internal battle of control, wanting desperately to scream and start wildly swinging or throwing things and just generally go beserk. So when people are around, it makes me that much more aware of the need to control that sensation. Outside of that feeling however, my husband of course is the number one, he even understands the wild look of panic in my eyes. Thelma...err Tracey is very easy to have with me, and Michelle (Mast) she let me squeeze her hand as hard as I wanted. Those two could be with me anywhere anytime during a hit and I would have no fears. Even if I did lose control, in the end I know they would understand. DJ saw get me hit in his truck while were driving to Dallas, I was mortified. I hate to have anyone see me cry for any reason, and that was almost harder to take than anything, because I know he understands what it's like to go through CH. Poor bugger ... I cranked the air conditioning and damn near froze him out too hehe - and he never said a word. I don't remember who else was even in the room with me in NY at the convention when I got hit and couldn't get away. BillyJ, he is a hero. He rescued me when I was locked out of the room and had no O2 and no meds, he not only helped me get to them, he sat with me and just his silent presence was very very calming, I think of everyone, he is the only person who has ever had that affect on me. I know all clusterheads understand, but it's just a thing with me. There's no comfort level with CH period for me, so I can't quite ever fully find a comfort level with someone around me during an attack. Cat |

I often wondered, people have talked about going through them with no meds...and I just think HOW? I've suffered long sometimes waiting for meds to kick in but that is completely different, you know it will end, and there are many times with meds, you can catch it at the onset and be spared the torture. Insanity!!! You bet. I forgot about my first year when I would have them, as of yet diagnosed, and people would not understand headaches being that severe. They could not relate and thought I was just being a big baby. I knew better though. Took a while to find the explaination but when I did, identifying the problem was relieving, I was not wrong, these were not just headaches. Some ventured to say maybe migraines. I thought, "not like this." I had seen people with migraines. Migraines are bad but I can be a tough bastard and take lots of pain but this was totally taxing my sanity and had taken me past the extent of what I thought I could bear. Nobody seemed to understand the meaning of UNBEARABLE damnit. Take it to that limit, and then bury the dial past that. Anyway, I prefer to bear them out alone, since I have for so long. I am sure I could have them hit with most any of you here because you've all danced, and whatever I have to do to bear them, I am sure is understandable to anyone here. I have not met personally those here so I can't choose one or a couple. But I am sure the empathy would be there, whether spoken or unspoken. I know you all are familiar with the experience and I would of course do what I could for myself to fight it. I am sure all or any of you would be behind me and I would feel that. I was going to comment on Jayne's naked in the closet but I'll bite my tongue. Title: Re: If you HAD to: my poll Post by Roxy on Mar 10th, 2004, 10:04pm I do have to add two other wonderful guys to my list. The first time I got hit at the convention, DJ and jonny were there. The 02 didn't even have the regulator on yet. I turned and looked at jonny, and just said...."jonny", and he came running and fixed it up for me when I didn't even know where I was at that point. I can still remember looking down and seeing two hands holding me. One with no tattoo visible, and another with tattoos. Talk about two sweeties. And, Mr. Happy, who grabbed me by the earlobe in Iowa, and drug my ass off to the 02.....he knew when I needed to go....I was going to wait...LOL. He's always been much smarter than me...... ;;D |

Title: Re: If you HAD to: my poll Post by fubar on Mar 10th, 2004, 11:22pm echo, I'm so humbled to be mentioned as a person you'd chose to be around during a hit. the impact of that was nothing I expected. reading the other names, I was like 'uh huh, of course, yes I agree, Oh my God... that's MY name!'. a very odd and good feeling. I would chose anybody that would respect my desperate plea to simply be away from me as fast as possible for a long as it takes. I feel worse knowing people are watching, probably desperate to help and completely helpless. I feel frustration at not being able to control myself, my expressions, my tears. I grow angry at the force that cripples me with no mercy. It is NOT something I want to go through with someone sitting there trying to help. Thank you echo. you too V. -Shawn |

Title: Re: If you HAD to: my poll Post by Callico_Kid on Mar 11th, 2004, 12:06am You are asking a lot. I have only two other than you all here that I have grown to love the last couple of years and especially the ones at Davcon 03 who sat through a light one with me and didn't bat an eye (what an awesome experience), but just kept on with the conversation. There is a young man from my youth group at church who is preparing for the ministry. Theon participated in my daughter's wedding last May, and when I got hit at the rehearsal dinner he went out with me and just stood guard and kept anyone else from bothering me. He didn't say a word, but his presence was enough. Also, my daughter's maid of honor is an EMT. My daughter told her about my condition, so she read up on it and made herself available during all of the festivities. She also had the sense to leave me alone, but brought a box of kleenex and kept others away. I hope though that I never have to put another person through that again. I know she had nightmares from the experience that night. They are two awesome kids that have honorary clusterhead credentials in my book. Jerry |

Title: Re: If you HAD to: my poll Post by Linda_Howell on Mar 11th, 2004, 12:13pm Thank you all for answering this thread. The reason I started it, is because a friend and I were talking about how we all hibernate and isolate ourselves when we are getting hit. I didn't think I would ever want to be around anyone until last year at the convention in NY. Mast, Roxy, Cat and Elaine were great and made me realize I DO need someone to hold my hand. I DO need for someone to be there, however quietly. I still have a hard time letting Jim see me get hit. I usually head for the bathroom to dance, not because he's uncaring or unsupportive, but because he just doesn't UNDERSTAND. I also feel less embarrassed for all the other conventions where I felt I made a fool of myself in front of some of you and you guys(and Lizzie) know who you are...LOL LindaH |

I got hit coming out of a store with my mother-in-law when my son was only two weeks old and I couldn't take any meds. I let her know what was going on and that we needed to get home right away. She couldn't drive the truck I had at the time so I had to drive. My mother-in-law spent the entire 10 minute ride home yapping and yapping and yapping about her suffering with migraines while my son was crying in his carseat. When we got to my house; I just ran in and left them both in the truck. My dear, sweet mom-in-law has no idea how narrowly she escaped death that day, but her son sure does! Title: Re: If you HAD to: my poll Post by Mikey on Mar 12th, 2004, 1:52am There's been a few of Cluster Heads that has seen me in an attack. Some of which would be.... Cluster Chuck, i feel comfortable around him, Lil Deb, Nancy C, Thomas, Paigelle, 357 Mag--Dan, Elaine, Buddy, Giovanni. These are some of the people that have been there when it's happend, and i feel comfortable around them as well, and i think you would be a good one to be around Linda...I hope i haven't left anyone out. I'm sure that there are many others that i would be comfortable around, but just haven't been around them when i've got hit, so probably any CHer would comfortable because we all know what to do and what not to do. Title: Re: If you HAD to: my poll Post by BarbaraD on Mar 12th, 2004, 5:40am It's taken years to learn NOT to apologize for getting hit. I'm still more comfortable alone, but with another CHer it's not too bad. Donna D and I had an eye-opening experience in Dallas with us both getting hit. She grabs a heating pad and I turn the air down to meat hanging temperature. She can't stand light and it doesn't bother me. We were in a COLD room with no lights moaning at each other. Both of us knew not to mess with the other one. But we survived and laughed later. Being on the supporter side is awful. Kip I remember seeing you get hit (my first experience with seeing another get hit)- My first instinct was to "touch" you. Found out that wasn't a really good idea.. LOL! But you were so polite yelling "F-O" at the time. ;;D With another Clusterhead, we can laugh afterwards (or during) because we know what they're going thru. I hate getting hit in front of my husband - he doesn't have a clue and "wants" to do something. Some day I'm going to have to kill him for trying to be so "helpful". I did have an attack in front of my doctor. Got hold of his little white coat and started banging my head on his chest. Five people were trying to get me lose and couldn't. No one in that clinic has ever questioned me again. When I say headache they jump. Apparently my doc had never SEEN anyone with a full blown ch. NOW he knows. This is a really good question Linda. Hard to answer, but a good question. Hugs BD |
