Title: Midwest Chapter trying to form!
Post by Cerberus on Mar 3rd, 2004, 12:46pm
Ok we have a ball rolling on forming a midwestern chapter of OUCH! But we need our help. I need a list of peoples names and addresses who live in the following states:

Illinois
Iowa
Indiana
Wisconsin
Missouri
Kentucky

This is hopefully going to be the central geographical location for the chapter. IF YOU DO NOT LIVE IN ONE OF THOSE STATES you will STILL be able to get in, we are trying to make it easier for everyone by making it possible to join the chapter via the state closest to you. WE HAVENT FORGOTTEN THE REST OF THE MIDWEST!
IMPORTANT! when this gets moving you will need to be a "registered" member of OUCH NATIONAL to be a voting member of the (hopefully soon to be )midwest chapter SO....IF YOU WANT IN and havent registered yet DO IT NOW!

Now the easy part. IF you live in the above listed states I need your names/addresses/ phone #'s sent to my e-mail  UssCerebus@hotmail.com or to Woobie's e-mail Slea_p_1@hotmail.com. The sooner the better. I will be composing and mailing those of you who send the information to me a letter explaining in more detail what is happening and hopefully with a better understanding of how it is going to happen. I need to get a general idea of how many people want in as well.

A LITTLE MORE INFO!

Right now I am just tying to get a general idea of membership and a general head count so that we can make the charter process as simple as possible.

AGAIN: you aren't excluded from getting in because of geographics....I just need some general figures to work with so I kept the states involvement limited for now.

I just have a question Ramon, why is there a grouping of multiple states, instead of having a chapter for each state?  I am just curious.  For the moment, I will ask the BoD and membership for discussion on the subject of having more than 2 states in a chapter.

Thanks!
Melissa

Melissa,
I think we are just too few and far between to have individual state chapters. Maybe after we get this thing up and running and membership grows we can split into individual states or even regions but for now I just don't think there are enough of us in any one place to make it worthwhile.

Melissa,

Exactly what JDH said....The idea is to get the initial chapter up and then split into smaller individual state or bi-state groups. There is a HUGE number of CHers in the midwest but many are too far apart to make things logistically simple. Not to worry we will jump through all the hoops n stuff when the time comes. Right now I just want a general idea of geographics and numbers to work with. I just need an idea of how big this is gonna end up......an estimate basically.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for responding.  It might be more pertinent with legal paperwork and such, to pick one state for the chapter headquarters, and have anyone from the neighboring states join.  Under the Annual Charter for OUCH Chapters, Article VI states:

Quote:
1. All O.U.C.H. members may join any affiliated chapter. An expired membership in O.U.C.H. automatically terminates local chapter membership and any associated memberships. It shall be the responsibility of each local chapter to ensure that chapter members are current O.U.C.H. members and to maintain on file in the chapter records a signed copy of the annual Chapter Membership Enrollment Form and Release of each chapter member. It shall be the responsibility of any person applying for, or renewing, membership in a local chapter to provide proof of his or her National membership as a condition of eligibility for membership.

I think the best thing for right now, is to discuss this with the OUCH BoD and Treasurer.  I have already begun a thread under BoD/Officer public discussion.

Thanks!
Melissa

If we do pick a state it should be WI it has the most active members in it out of the group.  That is my opinion.

Karla,
It looks to me like Illinois has a bigger membership (114) than WI (81). In fact Illinois is in the top 5 in the country.

Jim who's from MO (w/88 members)

Ramon,

At OUCH we're (BarbD, Donna and Jim and I )  are trying to come up with a pkg. for just what you are doing.   A "how-to" book to simplify your process. Be patient with us...we're almost there.

Thanks Linda......help is GOOD!

Just trying to work out logistics for now. The potential for a midwest chapter is BIG! but I need to know within reason how many, how many states, etc. which has raised questions already. Melissa inquired about multi-state considderations, which after even more thought has raised some interesting topics in MY mind about things.....ultimately having to be discussed by the National BOD.....Oh yeah guys, there is more incoming discussion material get ready! :D
We'll stick with the basics and logistics first...

Ramon..........

This is a great idea!  There are so many CH'ers in the Mid-West.

Karla......get with the BOD.....if you wish to start a Wisconsin Chapter.

This is good.  If some States would rather not be included with Ramon's....then you guys get busy!  Start your own Chapter for your home State.

Just remember.....other than starting a Chapter....nothing much can be done till all the other work is completed by OUCH.

The more Chapter's we have the more the OUCH membership should grow.

Good Luck Ramon........

Jean

Ramon,

I'm going to post this here as opposed to sending you a personal e-mail because maybe this dialog will help someone else.

California had 247 members when I took over.  I e-mailed everyone on the "where we live" button.   Sent a nice welcome to calOUCH blah blah blah letter.
Most of the e-mails were bogus or had changed since they first posted and never went through.

That, aside....I would suggest you do the same thing for everyone you're trying to reach.   Get together a letter of introduction...tell people what you mean to do and ask for their help and support.  Get input and then "go with it"   damn the torpedos!

The West welcomes the midwest in their pursuit.

(was that politically correct enuf?)  sheesh!

Linda Howell, Director of calOUCH, BOD member of OUCH and no one else in particular or of any importance whatsoever.

Chapters are great, but shouldn't we get all of the bylaws for OUCH (the big one) and everything else completely ironed out, then have all of the local chapters adopt said by-laws and rules.  Otherwise we may be setting ourselves up for an articles of confederation type situation instead of a smooth running organization that moves in-tune with all of the chapters, and those who relocate to another state, will not have to re-learn all of the different by-laws.  I'm just thinking "big-picture" here, folks.  Not trying to rain on anyone's parade.

No Problem Terry,

I'd just rather not have you suffer the aftermath of posting too much personal info in a public forum....not a matter of trust so much as caution. ;) I don't believe you are in any danger from US here, bu,t those who might seek to do evil do have access too. ;)
