Charley,

First what is you present operating system? and what was your old operating system, if they were winxp and win9x you should be able to put in the floppy, run windows explorer, or even click on my computer, click on the file on the floppy and it should bring up the backup program if it is installed, if you used anouther program then you will have to istall it on xp if you can.

It was Windows 98. This is XP and I get some kind of Unreognized format thing. I don't understand what I'm told to do about it. Makes little sense to me. Never thought that would be a problem, >:(

I guess everything else works. Lots to relearn and do.

What kind did you get? Compaq, Dell? Do you think you're going to like it?

I'm going looking for a new computer on Monday. Mine has a a problem that won't go away and won't let me open my e-mail. Pissin me off. It's going in the neighbor's pool on Tuesday.

Anybody..........Dell, Compaq, Gateway? Give me a hint on what's best.

Nice fat Dell here Bob.

I have no business doing so but I got a 19 inch flat screen.....what a thing. Saw it at my neurologist and had to get one. Terrific. 8)

Still trying to navigate. Lotsa stuff to learn but so far I like it a lot.

Hated my Compaq.

I have a Compaq now. It's 4 years old and has windows 98.
The computer I'm typing this on (I'm at work) is a new Dell. It has Windows XP.
I like Window98 better. It's easier to use. Seems like every up-grade just means more ways to confuse dumb-asses like me.
I don't plan to get anything but the computer. My keyboard, mouse, monitor, scanner, printer are all fine. And I'm a cheap SOB.

Like 98 too. Geeks told me to get used to XP. Hated the Compaq because it was so small. This is a different ballgame. Now if I can only find my way around.

I'm cheap too but I need a new toy.

I have run into that problem too. For some reason XP wouldn't recognize the discs made in a Win98. The only solution that I found was to copy the disc's with another computer running Win98 and all was fine. The only thing I could think of is that XP didn't like something about the discs. The formatting FAT16 is the same for both. So fire up your old machine or find someone else with WIN98,ME and copy them to new discs.

My last comp purchase was with a company called ASB. I think their web addy is ASBPC.com. It screams, they put in it what YOU want in it, got here in 6 days and I think I paid $600 (I didn't want a new monitor).

I am very happy with it. I cannot say anything about their customer service as I have not needed any...

This is incredibly stupid. Since when is something this assinine allowed? Don't tell me this is what you people mean about XP? Rats.

Not easy to copy for me..........how about my copying to a hard disk? I have a dual disk thing here. Too bad I'm not into a lot of muzak.

Have to buy a disk or two anyway.

Hate puters more and more.
