First meeting with my neuro years ago he prescribed dep. Sorry I don't remember the "build up" time for its effectiveness. If there is a ramping up time involved, your doc should have started it so that it would take affect as the prednisone taper diminished. I didn't have luck with depakote as a preventative, I don't know about stadol spray. From your post, it might seem the preventatives may not be as effective as the doc thought it might be. Let doc know, sometimes they have a number of preventatives which are known to be effective and need to know from you if they hit the jackpot on their first try. Keep hangin' tough and express the frequency and intensity of which you are going through to him. Been in 'dem shoes. Make him think harder, or you may hurt longer. Best to you. Good luck. Kevin M |

Title: Re: new med for me Post by AlienSpaceBabe on Feb 27th, 2004, 2:26pm drap, for me, it took a couple of weeks for the depakote to kick in and start helping with CH. do you have oxygen to abort headaches? it's quite effective for most CHers, is relatively inexpensive, is usually covered by insurance, and doesn't seem to have any side effects... My 7 year old is on depakote same doseage and it took one week for me to notice a diff. Being that he is small it might take a little longer for you depending on your weight. Gena |

Title: Re: new med for me Post by echo on Feb 27th, 2004, 3:21pm Glad you have found a potential relief. If you dilute the stadol with distilled water it will still do the trick but won't make you such a zombie. |

Title: Re: new med for me Post by thebbz on Feb 28th, 2004, 11:51pm Drap, Man you are really going through it , my heart goes goes out to you. Sounds like me about 10 years ago. Personally, all prevents have failed for me. Tried all to date that I and 4neureos can come up with. Every time I try prevents in a cluster, it worsens the demon, more instense pain and number. I started the taper on the prednisone yesterday. I agree with prior suggestion to work in prevents on taper . Neuro (more than one ) has told me never to abruptly start or stop any meds. All the best John and Joan Bebee the bbz |

Title: Re: new med for me Post by Prense on Feb 29th, 2004, 10:39am 250mg seems a little low to me for depakote as a preventative. I ended up at 1000mg/day, but it still did not do jack for my CH. Chris |

Title: Re: new med for me Post by UN_SOLVED on Feb 29th, 2004, 11:21am I ended up at 1750 mg a day. Didn't help me either. Better ditch the Stadol spray. You'll get hooked on something that doesn't work. Unsolved |

Title: Re: new med for me Post by Lizzie2 on Feb 29th, 2004, 11:26am I forget how much depakote I wound up on...too much! Anyhow, be careful on that stadol. Like Unsolved says, it can be addicting...also can cause rebound...you don't need rebound on top of clusters! |
