Title: Not CH--- Med advice Post by athos on Feb 21st, 2004, 8:15pm I have had severe spinal problems, both lower and upper spine.... My neuro has me on Xycodone - 8 a day 2-4x a day to help with that pain... It is working ok... The pain currently goes down my left arm.... previously was down my right arm.. and also lower back.... I have had a fusion of c5-c7 still not really helping... My neuro asked me if I want to go on Oxycontin instead of oxycodone... Which I understand is longer lasting so there are fewer pills - That is good... but is Oxycontin more addiciting than oxcodone? CH plus this crap. I start a Physical therapy regimine next week plus a neck traction unit.. hopefully that will help. My neuro wants me to research and make an educated decision and know what the pitfalls are and the benefits are. So I am asking those with experience to help me out and bless me with their wisdom. Without pain management I can't use my left arm, so I have to do something. I know that there is bad press on Ocxycontin, but does it really help those who need it? and is it that much wors that oxycodone? thanks for you help... |

Title: Re: Not CH--- Med advice Post by t_h_b on Feb 22nd, 2004, 11:03am OxyContin is just controlled release oxycodone. It's usually given to people like you are already taking oxycodone. If you're taking the full dose you're prescribed now, you might get "smoother" pain control with the OxyContin, not so many peaks and valleys. Just don't break them in half or chew'em up. I hope you get that arm pain under control. Chronic pain like that will wear you out. Good luck. |

Title: Re: Not CH--- Med advice Post by JDH on Feb 22nd, 2004, 12:35pm Athos, I've had chronic pain in my left left leg due to damage to my sciatic nerve during a "simple disc surgery" in '96 and I've had chronc pain ever since. I've been through pain management, PT, narcs, anti-depressants, blah, blah, blah and nothing has helped as much as a lot of walking. I can clear my head and get good excersize for my leg. I have narcs on hand and there are times when I use them when the leg is bad but for the most part I think there are better ways. Hopefully the PT will help and you can get through this as med free as possible. Sure chronic pain sucks and it will take the life out of you if you let it but you just have to take it one day at a time. Good luck, Jim |
