Title: C-Collar Attack Post by randal on Feb 17th, 2004, 12:35am Me and my Wife where out shopping for a dishwasher on Saturday and we had just gone to a couple of stores to do some comparison shopping. During that time the demon hit me with a whopper and I had forgotten my Imitrex. She took me to our clinic that is open on saturday for outgoing patients who are part of this family care of doctors I belong to. The docotr gave me some Imitrex and some O2 and sent us on our way. My wife was driving because I was still a little tired from the beast taken over. We where in the slow lane and I remember bending down to grab something when I heard my wife screaming that a ladder had just fallen in front of our car.She swirved to miss it and wound up hitting another car who tried to avoid this ladder. 6 cars hit or avoided this ladder and ended up wrecking all of are cars. I was pinned in the passenger seat and could not move because it felt like my neck and shoulder where broken. The ambulance came and put me in a C-Collar and stretcher and took me to the Hospital. On the way to the hospital I started to get a cluster and knew I could not move so I tried not to think about it.By the time we reached the ER my cluster was in full swing and this C-Collar around my head was going to have to come off some how or I would just explode.I told them I cannot have anything touching me at this stage of my CH and they needed to take it off now!!!With my Wife telling them she would take it off if they didn't. They said I would have to wait till I had X-rays first to see if my neck was broken. The Headache went on for over an hour when they came in to do the X-rays. 30 minutes later they came in and said my neck was fine and took the brace off-- but I wasn't fine. When they checked my blood pressure it was 210/150 and at that time was suffering a CH that had lasted more than 2 hours. The Doctors and nurses finally realized how much pain I was in so they had to give me a demirol shot for the pain and to lower my blood pressure. It was a strange day and I know this is one long borring story but the feeling of that C-collor around my head during the cluster attack gives me nightmares thinking about it. PS:My poor jeep was a complete total--DAM [smiley=hammer.gif] |

You're probably going to be sore awhile. Wife ok? I couldn't have dreamed up a worse day. Take care and stay tuned in. Best to you. Kevin M |

Title: Re: C-Collar Attack Post by Charlie on Feb 22nd, 2004, 9:07pm Yikes. Glad to have you aboard but what a horror story. It's another case where a wallet card with cluster information might have made a difference. It is a good idea and maybe you can make something yourself on the order of a medic alert card. Glad it was you that took the lesser beating. Sorry for the Jeep though. Here are a couple links that may be helpful. The first being to a technique that worked for me: http://www.netsync.net/~charlies/ This next one is to a letter written by a fellow cluster headache sufferer that is the best of its kind to help explain these attacks to families, friends and employers. Its author encourages copying. It’s well worth it. "http://www.ouch-uk.org/ch/note_colleagues.cfm" Let us know how you are getting along. Charlie |
