First of all I don't get out much, hell I don't get up much [smiley=laugh.gif] anyway my bride of almost 25 years has decided we need to do a Caribbean Honeymoon thing. My question to anyone that might know is how much crap if any, will these little Island countries give you over bringing in or taking out Imitrex injections? I have looked and looked and not found a thing mentioned in any government publication.

I'm not sure about the shots but I went on my honeymoon in October to Mexico. And they let me bringf in a boat load of meds in my carry on. Maybe contact your airline if you haven't already.

Going to Canada I had some in my cary on and alot of stuff in my suitcase. No one really checked in detail to see what was in my bags other than to xray them and make sure no guns etc were in there. I don't think you are going to have a problem with this.

I dont know about the countries dude, but make sure you find out what the guidelines are for that on the airline you will be using...A Doc's script should do.

Lee,

Having done a fair amount of travel while doing IT work on cruise ships, the Islands will care more about the number of packs of smokes you bring in [if you smoke] than they will about meds.

As paranoid as the screeners are after 9-11, it would be best to not pack it in your carry on. A script or letter from your doc should get you through customs if they quetion you about it. But don't volunteer that you have it, that could raise a red flag. Having done all my Caribean travels pre 9-11, I found customs there very casual. Lee is right, they are more interestd in smokes.

I've been to many of the Carribean countries. Most meds you can get over the counter and what you cant you can get a script for from the hotel Doc who almost always owns a pharmacy in town.

Depending on cash I highly reccomend St. Thomas (high end) or an all inclusive in Cozumel (extremely economical with all the frills). The Doc over there wrote out a script for oxys for my wife (legit injury, not enough meds) with no questions asked. Imitrex will not be an issue.

That is what has me thinking, getting hit between Houston and Jamaica with no shot, be in fucking jail the hole trip, might wind up in the big G. Lee, the eternal optimist. ::)

Just have a letter from your Doc with you. I've travelled many times since 9-11 with injections in the carry on and have never been questioned.

If the concern is making you nuts then call the airline ahead of time, explain the situation and ask for their suggestions and policies regarding neccesary injections. Would they stop a diabetic from carrying injections? I doubt it.

Injectable Medication

Make sure injectable medications are properly labeled (professionally printed label identifying the medication or a manufacturer's name or pharmaceutical label). Notify the screener if you are carrying a hazardous waste container, refuse container, or a sharps disposable container in your carry-on baggage used to trainsport used syringes, lancets, etc.

Persons with Diabetes

* Notify the screener that you have diabetes and are carrying your supplies with you. The following diabetes related supplies and equipment are allowed through the checkpoint once they have been screened:
o insulin and insulin loaded dispensing products (vials or box of individual vials, jet injectors, pens, infusers, and preloaded syringes);
o unlimited number of unused syringes when accompanied by insulin, and;
o lancets, blood glucose meters, blood glucose meter test strips, insulin pumps, and insulin pump supplies.
* Insulin in any form or dispenser must be properly marked with a professionally printed label identifying the medication or manufacturer's name or pharmaceutical label.
* Notify screeners if you are wearing an insulin pump and, if necessary, advise the screener that it cannot be removed since it is surgically implanted.
* Insulin pumps and supplies must be accompanied by insulin with professionally printed labels identifying the medication or manufacturer's name or pharmacy label.
* Advise screeners if you are experiencing low blood sugar and are in need of medical assistance.
* It is recommended that used syringes be transported in your checked baggage; however, when used syringes need to be in carry-on, ensure they are in a hard, plastic-capped container (i.e. sharps disposable container) for safety and containment.

Make sure you also have the pharmacy label. When I pick up my 10 boxes, they put the pharmacy label on only one of them. I try to remember not to throw that box out...

Lee, I've flown quite a lot since I've started carry trex with me. Been searched quite a lot too. Even coming home from the Iowa meet and greet, I was searched totally....three times. They took my scotch, and shoved by all those loose needles in my purse like they weren't there. Had vials everywhere, had two packages of syringes in my carry-on, and probably 5 more vials.

They never looked at them.
