Title: tuning fork update Post by bubu on Feb 11th, 2004, 7:57am day two with tuning fork therapy, only one headache, last night at my regular time, 2 am, which is usually a 7-9 of 30 minutes and last night, with tuning fork, 5 minutes of three. during the day, and the day before, i would feel one coming, do the tuning fork and they would stop! never before have i had false starts! i place the tuning fork, A, the butt on my temple (i am a right temple CHer) and twang the ends of the fork with my free hand and let it rong, i feel the vibrations going deep in my head and after 3 or four twangs it disappears. now, remember, i was 7 years pf and have just completed my first two weeks back, remembering back to when they began, at age fifteen, the first cycle lasted only two weeks and throughout the years, until my last cycle at 40yo it was up to 2 months and headaches lasted 2 hours of 7-10, so maybe when they start back its back to the beginning and my two weeks are up? whatever, i am really excited, i dont call this a cure! but would someone please try it. i also know that during my last 25 years of ch i would stumble onto temporary relief but with the next cyclt it would be useless, someone try my tuning fork is an A, its about 3 inches long, one for the handle and the prongs are 2", the prongs are about a halfaninch apart, its for tuning my guitar and mandolin, (i shy from technology, electronic tuners, as i shy away from non accoustic music, which is besides the point.) let me know if you try |

Title: Re: tuning fork update Post by bobkip on Feb 11th, 2004, 9:26am Very ineresting. I'd give it a try but I've been pf for the last 3 days; ever since I started neurontin for something unrelated to clusters. Cmon people, bubu just might have something. WTF, we've tried some things that were completely outrageous (anyone remember jalapenos up the nose?). Kip |

Yep, I remember. And the 2nd gear vibration on a Harley. Or was that to relieve another condition? |

Title: Re: tuning fork update Post by don on Feb 11th, 2004, 9:39am I use fork therapy to. When I get hit; I take a standard kitchen fork and jam into my right foot as hard as possible. Takes the focus off my head for a few. I started this after developing a tolerance for Peruvian Butterfly Farts. |

Title: Re: tuning fork update Post by Cerberus on Feb 11th, 2004, 3:32pm ya know what, I know you guys are skeptical (justly so, its a long shot at best) but I've been doing some thinking about this tuning fork thing. And there may be some merit to it in one way or another. Obviusly there are many degrees of sound waves, and tuning forks ride the higher end of the same. Barely audible, but produce specifically tuned vibration. (not unlike the harmonic tones on a stringed intrument) Is it possible that the vibration this note "A" causes when indirectly touched to the trigeminal nerve stimulates it in such a way that it actually helps? Maybe...its a harmless tactic and non invasive medically, there are no side effects, its legal, and if it could possibly have some sort of merit, why shouldn't we encourage research to a degree? Maybe its the placement of the vibration that counts. Maybe its the frequency of the note. Maybe there is another reason that we simply don't know about...... In any case if Bubu says it helps him, why scoff at his success? There COULD be an actuall scientific reason for it. I say go for it Bubu, don't let the nay sayers discourage you on this, and keep ACCURATE & DETAILED records of your findings. No bad can come from literally harmless experimentation. (the key word being harmless, unlike the pepper in the nose thing) You guys are old and bitter (probably P.Oed that you didn't think of it yourselves ;;D).....leave the guy alone he's just sharing some personal observations....and if his small amount of success keeps him PF for any extended length of time you guys will all be down at the music store purchasing "A" pitched tuning forks. :D Fuckineh, Ramon |

You mean Bob doesn't use a fork on his foot?? I thought it was similar to head banging. I'm with Ramon - no side effects, a possible scientific rational, an anecdotal report that it helps - who knows, maybe it works. |

Title: Re: tuning fork update Post by Giovanni on Feb 11th, 2004, 5:10pm With these damned headaches anything that gives relief would be a blessing. Happy for you bubu. Keep us advised on your progress--You might be onto something. John ;;D |

Title: fork you Post by Mr.Happy on Feb 11th, 2004, 5:23pm For anyone wishing to try this little experiment, I've got an A-440 tuning fork that's simply begging for a reason to exist. If you're "hot," I'll gladly mail the thing out tomorrow........all in the name of scientific enlightenment. Please return it when thru. It's not that they don't make `em anymore.....I just want the damned thing back. Guinea pig fever, RJ Added footnote This is not a Large sized fork. In the interest of science, I plugged ye olde stethoscope into the proper auditory openings, banged the fork on a knee, and applied to the diaphram. Wow that's loud. I'll want the damned stethoscope back too. |

Title: Re: tuning fork update Post by don on Feb 11th, 2004, 7:23pm If watching constant replays of the Janet Jackson malfuction would help I'd do it. This has however proven to be a trigger. I long for the Peruvian Butterfly Fart days. |

Title: Re: tuning fork update Post by boomboom on Feb 12th, 2004, 12:07am We tried this on toader during his roughest times. The idea was to help him relax a bit during those awful blasted attacks. Personally, I appreciated it, because it gave me something to do and made me feel helpful. Toader indulged me and let me do them on him so that I would feel better. I am not sure how much the treatment helped him, but it certainly didn't hurt |
