Title: Re: Please help me to help someone!!! Post by thomas on Feb 6th, 2004, 11:58am Don't know about the dramamine...... but start with 3mg of melatonin 45 min before bed. If he gets some sleep, add 2mg of time release melatonin....... this worked great for me. |

Title: Re: Please help me to help someone!!! Post by Opus on Feb 6th, 2004, 12:15pm For melatonin I increased the dosage 1mg a day, I noticed the best night was at 12mg, I went up to 15mg with worse results, I went back down to 12mg and within three days I was PF. I recent went down to 9mg and I am getting hit again. Everyone has a different level it seems as thomas's dose would do nothing for me. The typical dose is 9mg for CH. I am using the non time released pills. Opus/Paul |

Title: Re: Please help me to help someone!!! Post by thomas on Feb 6th, 2004, 12:19pm Are you using time release, Paul? I don't see it mentioned....... I think you can use less mg, with time release, at least I can. |

Title: Re: Please help me to help someone!!! Post by Roxy on Feb 6th, 2004, 12:19pm The melatonin didn't work for me, made me get slammed harder. On the dramamine, have him start out with two. If they still break through, then up it to three. I've taken four of them before, but only once. Two should probably work for him. |

Title: Re: Please help me to help someone!!! Post by Opus on Feb 6th, 2004, 12:37pm Thomas, I must have edited my post after you read it. I use non time released, as it is the only kind I can find, and only one store in my area seems to carry it. Opus/Paul |

Title: Re: Please help me to help someone!!! Post by chronic_chic on Feb 6th, 2004, 1:01pm I was told that I could go anywhere from 9-21 mg of melatonin for clusters, but to start out slowly. I didn't get relief from 9mg, and that was before I got this piece of advice so I'd gone off of it. I have yet to give it another shot. I've never seen the time-release ones here, either, but if you can take less on that, then great! :) ~Lizzie :) |

Mike's had EXACTLY the same experience as Roxy, Jayne. Melatonin was ugly for him. But Dramamine or Benadryl has been a magic pill to get him through the night. He's taken as many as 3 and it seems to work for him. I think they are 50mg or 75mg tablets (there are in Canada anyway). |

Title: Re: Please help me to help someone!!! Post by Jayne on Feb 6th, 2004, 5:37pm is it ok to keep on taking them each night..his cycle usually lasts 3 months...I have told him to get to a doctor and get on a combo of something. His 02 helps, but he keeps having to get up about 6 times in the night...I think it's each time he hits that rem sleep . |

Title: Re: Please help me to help someone!!! Post by Kevin_M on Feb 6th, 2004, 10:37pm I experimented with nontime release kind, all I could find. The thing was, without it, when I got headaches while sleeping, I would wake up with about a four, take meds, get an icepack and wait. While on the melatonin, during a bad cycle, I would sleep a bit longer, waking up with a six to seven already in progress. Tough to turn it around when she's got that gallop going. But there were nights I got six hours sleep at a time. Nine mgs for me. I'm in the midst of changing meds now and so still have more experimenting with the melatonin to go Thanks for asking about it Jayne, I got some more ideas to use from this thread. Kevin M |

but honey - he IS hitting that REM sleep - that's why he's getting hit in the night. Clusters hit when REM is reached. That's why benadryl or dramamine work - neither one allows the user to reach REM. But the sufferer will get some sleep and, when they're getting hit 6 times a night, ANY sleep is golden. It's not a good idea to take dramamine for more than a few days in a row because it does prevent REM, but if he can get, say, four or five nights of light sleep (compared to NO sleep), I'd say it's worth it. Hope this helps your friend, Jayne. :) |
