Title: Maybe I did not understand as much as I thought.
Post by BuddyH on Feb 5th, 2004, 5:44am

Being the obedient husband that I am, and that my wife has made me. ::) I never felt the need to ask her any questions concerning O.U.C.H.! I never really cared until I went to Nancy’s home. I was so dumb and unconcerned I did not even realize that O.U.C.H. and ch.com was different. I did not see the difference.  Wanting to help my wife I started listening more and trying to understand. For the last few years, I have watched her work, spend her money on stuff for O.U.C.H. and always looking for a way to do something to help.

Being a man, I put my foot in my mouth the other day. I asked my wife “why not just have fun on ch.com and support people and leave it at that” and not get into the O.U.C.H. stuff. Johnnie (Elaine) loudly informed me she did not believe I even asked that question. I understood why you all need each other and the importance of that. Johnnie seems to of found what works for her and others here seem to find it from working together I thought that was enough. Once I got Johnnie to chill, and I saw how upset she was that I did not understand, I could see it was as important as you all are to her. Johnnie asked me if I remembered what it was like before she found what worked for her. I do remember and I am glad it is over. The words she spoke next made this big man’s heart sink. Johnnie said, “What if it stops working? What happens if we have to go back to square one? I have Pain free time now! I want to keep it! I want to know what caused it, and I want a drug that works all the time. I want to one day not fear the next one! I want to be able to go to the ER and not be put on drugs. I want my friends to be pain free!” I did not think about all that.  I have to admit she is right. It has been wonderful not to see her walking the floors and crying all night. It has been nice to sit and have coffee with her in the mornings and not see her eyes tired from fighting a pain so horrifying. I never want to hear her scream in the middle of the nigh that she cannot take any more. It is nice to have her in the bed with me and wake up with her still there instead of on the bathroom floor or outside. I have met some wonderful people and I have come to care for them. I do not want to see them in pain either. I will no longer just be a number or a vote. I am going to be an active member. I am going to do what ever I can to make things Pain Free as possible and help her and you all find the answers. I hope you all will do the same if you are not already. If you are not active, get active. It is a way to help yourself or a love one. I can give a few hours on the weekend! I will give what I can. I will back my wife.

Join O.U.C.H. make your voice heard!

Buddy,
I've been fortunate enough to meet Elaine and I know what a special person she really is. She's very lucky to have you for a supporter and were all lucky to have you both on our side.

Super post Buddy.

Thank you for being a
supporter, to Johnnie/Elaine
& to all of us.

If ever you need information
or whatever, all you need to
do is ask.

I would be glad to help.

Way to go, Buddy! I've always found that the secret to a long, successful relationship is a complete and utter lack of communication. Considering the feistiness of Ms. Lainey, it's surprising you went this long unscathed.

That's the way it happens, eh? One meeting with a bunch of CHeads, and you wind up hooked for the duration.
Took me at least 6 months to figure out the difference between OUCH and CH.com, which is why I don't argue with stumps. But.....as you've discovered, there IS a difference between the two, even if it seems thinly veiled. It's fantastic that you crossed the line from looking and lurking to watching and working.

You'd think we'd have learned by now. Alas. It must be a testosterone thing that keeps us stupid. Ah well, water under the bridge. The only thing you need now is the official OUCH tattoo..........part of the initiation ritual.

10-4, Good Buddy......
