Title: CONVENTION AND A DOWNER Post by DaveHar on Feb 4th, 2004, 11:56pm Well let me start off by saying that I am pretty pissed at this point. I started a link to try and help people get to the convention. Some that may have some problems, and I have had a response that says basicly who gives a shit attitude. You know I am not asking for anything dramatic just a small helping had for some of our fellow clusterheads. I did not ask for a free ride or anything like that for anyone. I asked that we help those who could make it with a little help. I have had a grand total of 4 people off this board respond and that is bullshit. Look if you don't like the idea tell me or at least give me a reason why you don't like the idea so we can work it out. People, I do not feel that I am asking for allot at all. Do you realize that if we have 50 people that sign up for convention and each of them gave $10 that is $500 that can be used to help pay for 6 peeps registration as a gift and they pay their way down and back or 3 peeps registrations and maybe a special van to pick up someone who can not get to the airport on their own and back as well as part of a plane ticket for yet another person. It may not be allot but it is no more then what was done to help Ueli get to the states to be at the convention in Atlanta, GA. I am not asking any more then that. I make shit and if it was not for the income tax right now I would not be able to make it to convention this year either; even though it is here in TN. I have missed 3 conventions since I have been with this board, Atlanta, Vancouver, and NY. I made one mini convention and that was to Nashville to meet Jayne and the other 13 that were there and that was when I made 36k a year. So if I can give a little and I only clear 14K a year to help out another clusterhead not miss convention then what is the holdup for others in this family or what I thought was a family! If you do not want anyone to know who you are use the email link at the top of the message board and email me directly. There is nothing set in stone right now. I just need to know if this is supported or if I should just shitcan the entire idea. Take it for what it is. Dave |

Title: Re: CONVENTION AND A DOWNER Post by cootie on Feb 5th, 2004, 12:07am I'm sorry Dave.....I didn't respond 'yet' cuz I still have NO IDEA what day we will arrive what so ever to be able to help with the ride part. My parents live in Tennessee and we are either goin to try to arrive a few days early so we can run over to be with them a few days (cuz there bout an hour away and can't run back and forth the entire convention and do quality time with anyone doin it that way) or we may jus stay a few days later and visit with them that way. Still gotta make sure my house and pet sitter can be here off and on for us for the kennel ect. Didn't mean to sound uninterested by not responding Pam Jus tryin to resolve sum things here first.....give it sum time.........yer idea will do well I'm sure ! |

Title: Re: CONVENTION AND A DOWNER Post by BlueMeanie on Feb 5th, 2004, 1:53am Dave, I think your idea is a good one. Problem right now is it's kinda early in the year yet. I know in my case, I'm undecided who for sure is coming with me. How I'm gonna pay for hotel, transportation, dinner cost etc. I haven't decided weather to fly or drive and if I need to rent a car if I fly. I'm sure others are thinking the same thing right now. As soon as I can get my own plans in motion then i would be willing to help others in need. Just right now, I feel like I'm in need trying to figure out how to make this trip work. Give it a little time. I'm sure this Clusterville family will help out as much as they can. |

Title: Re: CONVENTION AND A DOWNER Post by 357Mag on Feb 5th, 2004, 2:02am Dave, I beleive you are going to receive replies similar to those by cootie, BlueMeanie, and myself.....a little to early for us to commit. My wife doesn't even know about this yet, I haven't decided if it is a 4-wheel or motorcycle trip, how long to we will be gone [may make a vacation out of it], depends on my business situation, etc., etc. Be patient and give it some time. From what I have read on this board, there are a lot of HUGE and CARING hearts out there. We ARE a family and family takes care of their own. Just my 2 cents. Peace, -dan |

Title: Re: CONVENTION AND A DOWNER Post by TomM on Feb 5th, 2004, 9:54am Bashing the volunteers in a volunteer organization does not promote your cause. Right? My humble opinion. BTW--I only clear less than 150K per annum... >:( TomM |

Title: Re: CONVENTION AND A DOWNER Post by ShariRae on Feb 5th, 2004, 11:36am Dave, I hafta agree with the posts before me... I think people are still trying to get their own plans in place before they commit to arrangements that they may not be able to keep.. Be patient & I am sure all will fall into place. You have done a great job getting this together & I'm sure all will work out in the end. Shari |

Title: Re: CONVENTION AND A DOWNER Post by DaveHar on Feb 5th, 2004, 7:02pm People, I'm sorry for the confusion and maybe I didn't make myself 110% clear when I made this post or the original post. I'm not looking for who is going and who is not. What I am looking for is a show of support for the idea or no support for the idea and if not why so that maybe we can do something to make everyone feel easy about how the money is used and how people will be picked to receive it. Right now it has nothing to do with the fact that your going or not. It is an idea that has been tossed out onto the table for all to see and say yea or nea and nothing more at this point. I understand that the convention is still a time away and plans have to be made. I am not trying to force anyone into commitment this early. I am just trying to get some input on an idea and nothing more so I know if I should waste my time on the project any more or not. People, please understand that I am not trying to be an ass about all this. I am just trying to keep our end of it moving forward so that everyone can have a great time and that just maybe others that may not have made it will have a chance to enjoy the same great time. Title: Re: CONVENTION AND A DOWNER Post by catlind on Feb 5th, 2004, 7:21pm Dave I'm assuming that this is something you are doing out of the goodness of your heart, and not in OUCH's name. We had this discussion last year as well about the convention and trying to set up a fund for those that couldnt' afford to attend. OUCH determined there was no fair way to award a convention attendance prize since there were so many other considerations involved. Things like a) How do you decide who is deserving of the money and who is not? b) If you award a registration and a spot for that person, what if they can't afford the transportation? c) What if they can't afford the hotel room? d) What if they can't afford the meals and other expenses that come with travel? We decided there was just no fair way to do this in OUCH's name. If you are doing this on your own, and if you want me to kick in any money towards it, how will you decide who warrants the money and who doesn't? I'm not trying to be a bitch about this, but I am not exactly wealthy, and I have given alot to OUCH over the last year in terms of time and my own expenses to further OUCH's goals. Tracey spent a fortune of her own money on this last business trip because OUCH simply can't afford all the details of a trip of that magnitude, but OUCH also can't afford to NOT realize the opportunity of such a trip. Clark is in the military and does not make much money. It will be a financial burden on us for just me attending let alone me trying to help out someone else to attend. Last year lots of people were helped to attend the convention, but it was done privately rather than as an a public donation. There were several there last year who were there because of other benefactors. It's a wonderful idea, I personally can't contribute at this point in time, and dont' see how you will be able to fairly determine who should/shouldn't get the gift/award. Cat |

Title: Re: CONVENTION AND A DOWNER Post by Renee on Feb 5th, 2004, 7:27pm Instead of pooling funds together and then trying to determine which ones get other's financial assistance, why not come up with an "Adopt a Clusterhead" where several Ch'ers volunteer to assist a particular person? That way, no funds are collected at one location to again be dispersed back out in no set up order thus no need to account for what money went where! Just a thought, but I'm willing to assist in whatever capacity in this endeavor. pf24/7 to all renee |

Title: Re: CONVENTION AND A DOWNER Post by Ree on Feb 5th, 2004, 8:34pm Amen~~ that is what i wanted to say Cat... How many of the 5000 people will want to go if someone else is footing the bill... and exactly how would you tell who would get the money........ and who would ask for it anyway???????? and not be embarrassed???????? I personally don't like the idea....... I like to know exactly where my money is going all the time. ree |
