Title: IMITREX TABLETS Post by beepbeep on Jan 25th, 2004, 5:42pm Has anyone ever converted an Imitrex tablet into a water solution and injected it. It makes alot of sense to me when you can take a 100 mg tablet and get 16.6 shots out of it. My insurance covers 4 injectables or 6 nasal sprays or 18 pills a month. The Injectable is the best as we all know. I want some send back on this.... What is the best solution to suspend it? |

Title: Re: IMITREX TABLETS Post by BillyJ. on Jan 25th, 2004, 6:39pm I don't think thats a good idea, because of the inactive ingredients. "Each Imitrex tablet for oral administration contains 35 or 70 mg of sumatriptan succinate equivalent to 25 or 50 mg of sumatriptan, respectively. Each tablet also contains the inactive ingredients croscarmellose sodium, lactose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, and titanium dioxide dye. " http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/sumitr.htm I'm no doc but I sure as hell would not take the chance on injecting the other stuff into my blood stream! The proccess that the trex is absorbed from tablet to blood is NOT the same as injecting all that stuff directly. VERY risky! Please don't take that risk,it just ain't worth it! |

Title: Re: IMITREX TABLETS Post by t_h_b on Jan 25th, 2004, 8:02pm Well, I'm not a chemist or a pharmacist, but: a)it's not sterile b)you don't want to inject the other ingredients (like milk sugar and wood fiber) into your skin. At least one of the igredients is designed to soak up moisture (croscarmellose sodium). c)I wouldn't be thrilled about eating the titanium dioxide--it's used in paint and plastics--but I sure as hell wouldn't want to shoot it up. You might end up with a permanent white spot in your skin. (I'm guessing about the white spot and could be wrong.) d)Because of the cellulose and croscarmellose, you would probably end up with a thick slurry with visible particles. In order to inject through a fine-guage needle, you need a thin liquid. It probably wouldn't physically work. Bottom line, the regular Imitrex injection (with just saline) is irritating enough. I get a big red sore spot every time, and I give GOOD injections. You don't want an abscess or an allergic reaction to some of the additives. Don't think it would actually kill you even if you could get it to work, and I would be interested in hearing why some people think it would be deadly. It's just a subcutaneous injection and I would think an abscess is the worst that would happen. None of the ingredients are poisonous. I don't have an insert or package for the pills, but I have had good success getting other meds to absorb faster by chewing them and washing them down with my good friend a cup of hot coffee. I'll let someone else assess this solution for appropriateness. Reading between the lines: yeah, these suckers hurt and can drive you to desperation. If you'll hit your head on the floor until it bleeds and get in a shower so hot it causes first degree burns, you'll shoot up an Imitex pill. Best not to do any of these things. The headache section at About.com has advice on getting your insurance to cover sufficient Triptans. Someone posted a link to it not too long ago. Rather than play home-pharmacist, get sufficient injectable Imitrex from your insurance company. |

Title: Re: IMITREX TABLETS Post by jmorgan52 on Jan 26th, 2004, 2:27am Hi beepbeep. Hey, that is also the sound the life support system will make keeping you alive when you are brain dead from trying this ;;D Seriously though you are not the first to suggest this stoopid idea on the board. It has been discussed a few times before. I had good success in my recent cycle using the imitrex tip to get 3 shots from a single injection which worked fine for me. So you could get up to 12 injections rather than just 4. John |

Title: Re: IMITREX TABLETS Post by Mark C on Jan 26th, 2004, 6:32am In all fairness this ain't the first time someone had this idea. Hell it occured to me a while back. At least CH ain't fatal unless you jump off a bridge, and that has occured to me too! PFDAN's Mark |

Please dont even think about it. That is just beyond a crazy thought. There are so many things inside on tablets that are not in injections. That is why they are tablets. This is just common sence. I am not a nurse or chemist or anything. I am sure there are many other people who can explain all of the medical reasons as to why this would be completely insane, but just from a completly layman aspect. Would you injust Nyquil to make it work faster? No. Because it is not designed to be take that way. That is why medicines say take only as directed. Tiannia |

Title: Re: IMITREX TABLETS Post by beepbeep on Jan 26th, 2004, 1:07pm Thanks for the reply everyone! Out of all the replies, I had none that were positive. So, I will reframe from doing so. I am new here, and it made sense till I compared ingredients on the Imitrex site after my post. I suffer alot. Everyday, I get these headaches and my insurance only pays for 18 pills, or 6 snorts, or 4 shots. I prefer oxygen to taking the pills. My doctors rather I take the pills verses the shot. I've read the page on the imitrex page too! Why can't they just make pure Imitrex? I am chronic and just want the pain to stop. I am fortunate that it just hit me 2 years ago. Verarpamil was working for a while, but like everything else is short lived. They doubled my script a week ago. I get a break maybe one or two days. There is not a cycle for me. Wish I knew how to make the break long term! I plan on the fungus method next. It's been many, many years since I hallucinated, like 20 some years. Please someone find the cure or the triggers! I beg everyone for the cure. I have researched this topic since my first headache. I've had teeth pulled, sinus surgery, multiple scripts, and a zillion over the counter remedies. Does anyone think it may be allergy related? I moved from Maryland to Florida and that is when it all started. Now when I go back to Maryland, I get the headache there too! It's got to be something simple. Maybe a lobotomy will work. I don't know anymore. I fear the beast everyday. Well, thanks again everyone. It's nice to know that people understand what's going on here. Normal people don't know how painful it is. My best description is that someone stabbed me in the eye with a red hot knife and stuck me on a tree. It takes me 45 minutes to get un-stuck and the knife out of my eye. The pain goes up into my forehead a little and into my teeth. oxygen works if you catch it in time. Like taxes and death, these headaches are guarenteed and I'll have to deal with it to the day I die. It sucks! :-[ |

Title: Re: IMITREX TABLETS Post by kissmyglass on Jan 26th, 2004, 4:23pm i'm chronic too....ask or better yet, tell your doc you want to try Lithium & Verapimil. Works great for me! A doc who tells you he would rather you take the pills versus shots dosen't understand Clusters in my opinion. Imitrex shopts werk wonders for me too but since I have no Ins. It financially ruined me quickly. Lithium & Verap are Not expensive & work wonders for me thank god! Good Luck! Kev |
