Title: How to get Oxygen in UK Post by Alan12 on Jan 25th, 2004, 3:13pm Are there any members in the UK - or South Wales - who have found a source of oxygen? I asked my doctor and he just laughed.....we don't prescribe oxygen for (mere) headaches. Tried Boots? Thanks, Al |

Title: Re: How to get Oxygen in UK Post by pubgirl on Jan 25th, 2004, 3:49pm Alan Hello, from a fellow Brit. There are hundreds of us in the UK, and last year we had the biggest gathering of clusterheads ever known in the world! There are full details of what oxygen you need and where to get it (via your GP of course) available on a link and via emails from our 'Gasman' Curt at OUCH UK (www.clusterheadaches.org.uk) or via clicking on the link kindly posted by Mr Happy above. You can buy a full kit from BOC but it costs several hundred £'s just for one tank, and I've no idea how you would get them to refill it. Far better in the long run would be to get your GP to prescribe it so you only pay the £6 or whatever the prescription charge is now. The best way we have found for ignorant GP's is to refer them to their own BNF (the bible they all have where they look up treatments and dosages) It very clearly says in there that high flow 02 is a standard treatment for CH. It often also helps to send in advance of your appointment with a letter a copy of the Clusterheadache article written by Prof Goadsby from the London Institute of Neurology (they are usually impressed by that) where he lists the main treatments including 02. This is also available on the OUCh UK site. Good luck, most GPs cave in and precribe if you do both the above. If he won't, or laughs again ask to be referred to a neurologist so you can be treated correctly Wendy |
