Title: 2nd week update Post by peteyg on Jan 20th, 2004, 2:10pm Well, I'm now in the second week of my third episode (I think...it may be the 4th...that was a long time ago...I can't remember the pain all that well). I had a kip 9 hit me in the middle of the night on Sunday night/Monday morning. It was so bad my head was actually sore for the rest of the day. Like, muscle soreness. Ugh. I know it will pass. I say that over and over.... I went to the doc on Friday. She said, "You have migraines!". ::) I said, "Yes, I do, but not this time. Right now it's Clusters." ;) She said, "But clusters are migraines." [smiley=huh.gif] I said, "They may possibly be related, but they do not respond the same way to the same treatments. Here, read this information." And I handed her the medical info I printed out from the links on the left. ;;D She said, "That's interesting, but this is migraine." :o I said, "Whatever. I want Verapamil. It worked the last time. I want it." >:( She said, "But that's a calcium blocker. It has no effect on migraine. You need a Beta Blocker! I'll give you Inderal, Imitrex, and Stadol." [smiley=huh.gif] Arghhhhhhhhh >:( >:( >:( So I said, "Give me a referral to a headache specialist." :) She said, "OK, but lets see if this works, first." [smiley=huh.gif] I said, "This won't work. Give me a referral." >:( She said (no shit, she really said this), "I'm the doctor. You should listen to me. We'll try this. Come back in 2 weeks and we'll see where we are. If there is no improvement, THEN I'll give you a referral." :P What? 2 weeks. This won't work. She wants me to suffer for 2 weeks because her fucking ego is too big to allow for the idea that she may be wrong? The imitrix is great, but the other stuff don't do diddly...I'm going to have to be more forceful, I think... >:( Oh, and to top it off, my insurance will only cover 18 imitrix pills a month. I'm getting three of these fucking things a day now! I'm gonna run out by the end of the week. Arghhhhhhh :o As I go through this, my mom has MS and is deteriorating. My wife has a gall bladder infection, which is killing her, and we have a 2 year old in the house. Needless to say, it's a little over the top. :( We'll make it, though. We are strong, and our will is good. This, too, shall pass, and we will be stronger for it. 8) Sorry for the vent. I needed to get that out. It's been eating me up for days. |

Title: Re: 2nd week update Post by Prense on Jan 20th, 2004, 2:15pm I like your attitude! Another avenue you could try if she wont give you the referral is a 2nd opinion... You should be able to get that easy enough. It's obvious from your statements that she is quite confused about CH. Probably has "several" non-common HA types confused with meegraines... I agree, be more forceful. Chris |

Title: Re: 2nd week update Post by 357Mag on Jan 20th, 2004, 3:16pm Don't be sorry for venting. I think it is a disgrace in this world of 'plenty' that people with real problems have to suffer. Especially because of egos or insurance rules. My turn to say sorry, but living in our nations capital has really turned me cynical when it comes to the 'establishment' [that covers just about everyone, med, corp, gov, insur, etc]. Maybe your doc needs to see an attack in progress. Banging your head on her walls or floor for an hour or so and cursing her wainting room may wake her up a bit. Good luck and here is h wishing many PFDAN's fo U. Peacec, -357Mag |

Title: Re: 2nd week update Post by don on Jan 21st, 2004, 7:38am Check your insurance to see if you even need a referal. Some insurance does noy require it if the neuro is included in the plan. At the very least get a new primary. |

Title: Re: 2nd week update Post by catlind on Jan 21st, 2004, 12:36pm Peteyg, I see that you are from CA. This may not help you at all, but you never know. When next you see your doc, if you don't fire her ;), ask her if she knows who Dr. Kudrow is. You see he is a leading CH doc in the country, and is quite knowledgeable on CH. He may not be in your neck of the woods, but throwing out a name such as his may get her attention. Failing that, search the list of docs that are recommended by other sufferers here and find yourself a doc that does know CH and/or is willing to be educated and listen to their patient. You are your own best advocate, and if the doc isn't willing to work with you, well it's time for a new doc. Cat |

Couldn't have said it better myself. Doctors sometimes forget that the patient (in this case you) is the customer. |

Title: Re: 2nd week update Post by Charlie on Jan 22nd, 2004, 1:31am Docs hate it when we know more about what ails us than they. I like your attitude and from what you say, I think it's time to find a better doc or at least one who will consider info gleaned from this site. A good rant and feel free do it again. Here is a link to my techinque that I got from my old neurologist. It worked for me: http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/ Let us know how you're doing. Charlie |
