Title: Wingate: Curious Initial Interview
Post by Miklos on Jan 16th, 2004, 5:50am
The text below is from my contact at the Wingate Pharmacy school. In as much as the original contact from the university suggested that this was to be a study on cluster headaches and since I had previously sent a detailed synopsis, the questions seem a bit odd as if this person was not aware of the original intent.

I will respond as asked, but I am curious about what you guys think.

I want to thank you for participating in this program. I hope that we can help each other through the course of the semester. Thank you for the information you provided in your last correspondence.

Are cluster headaches the principle medical problem you would like to discuss?

If so, please describe it to me.

How was it first manifested, recognized, and diagnosed?

When did you first notice that something was wrong, and did you initially excuse it?

Or were the symptoms so problematic that you immediately knew that something was wrong?

Please describe the symptoms in your own words.

Keep in mind that these are students not seasoned medical professionals.

They might be conducting simutaneous investigations.

I think they are asking how you may have ratiionalized it. At onset I wrote them off as stress from to much driving time. As it turns out the excess rooad time is a trigger for me.

This question should always be referred to Dark Angel.

These students are our future pharmacisits. We may not have to listen to "You only get 6 a month now go home and put a hot towel on your head." We can train these guys to grow some gonads and advocate for us with the insurance companies.

And finally............

I agree with Don.

They are young (21 -24) year old students eager and willing to learn.  Can we please show some patience and answer their questions to the best of our ability?

If not, perhaps you shouldn't have signed up  to take part in this project.

just my  [smiley=twocents.gif]

what?

Ya never met a blond pharmacy student?

Use small words when you answer.....oh....like pane, ouch, my my, gee, fuck, boo boo, pill, etc.

Only use technical terms like "unbearable m*th*rf**k*r" when absolutely necessary.

Not get on with it.

good grief

I'm not taking part in the survey, but rest assured that if I was I would be very patient, and give as much info as I could........ The above post was just me being my normal crass self. ;)

I agree with Ann, who agrees with Don, who agrees with Mik. Same kinda stuff here........

What is your principle disease state?  How was it first manifested, recognized, and diagnosed?  At first, did you dismiss what was going on, or did you know something was wrong?  How would you describe your symptoms?
Thank you so much for being my patient mentor throughout this semester.  I'm really eager to learn as much as I can!

Seems that Wingate has them going into this blind, not knowing that ALL students will be talking to CHeads, with no illness info. They may also be talking to folks with a bunch of different ailments. Reckon it wouldn't hurt to ask. Am keeping replys short and to the point, not trying to blow the whole wad at one time. Sure don't want to upset the 21 yr old virign I got paired with.......

Always leave `em wanting more,
RJ

From my student-"Again, I am very excited to have the opportunity to speak with you.  Since I will be assigned questions to ask you every Wednesday, you should be hearing from me at least once a week."
Please remember that they are students and that we
are part of the homework so to speak.I would rather
talk to a student who admits that they don't know and
is asking questions than with a "proffessional" who
already "knows it all"anyday.

Yeah I started correspondance with "my" student a few days ago and so far its great.  She was born in CT (as I was) and she's 29.  She has asked some really great questions and is very eager to learn.  My fav question of hers was what did I think was wrong my first CH and did I know it was ch and how would I descibe the pain etc etc.  I wrote her a "novel" as Sam says.  I loved telling her in detail my first hellish visit to the ER when I had my first CH and I really thought it was some horrible spike in my migraines and how now I would choose amigraine any day over a CH(she gets migraines and so does her mother).  I told her about how I was admitted for 3 days on a morphine push button machine and they pretty much overdosed meon the crap............

Yeah my student told me her teacher described a CH as an "ice cream type headache" or "brain freeze" that lasts for hours several times a day.......  and then she asked me how I would describe it.  I personally describe it as like having some one take a knife stab me in the head twist the knife then pull it out (rinse and repeat) for bout 3 hrs at a pop (told her to picture the movie phsycho but to the head......reeet reeet reeet)

The very first student class at Wingate started in August 2003.  We're in on the ground floor.  Teach them and teach them well gang.

I told mine that if he could imagine taking a pair of pruning shears and cutting off 1" of finger 3 times a day, every day for 15 weeks, he's be getting close to the pain of cluster.

He's a fly-fisherman.  Good boy!

Right. Is that a brain freeze on the Kelvin scale?

How about an ice pick through the brain that is so fraging cold that it is burning the skin and frying your brain all in one shot?
