Title: Zomig?  Anyone out there have any good result
Post by Weinhexe on Jan 11th, 2004, 11:28pm
Just found this site, and am happy to find out that my husband is not the only one who suffers these horrible attacks!
Been to so many "specialists" and taken so many tests!
Tried Lithium two years ago, and found myself married to a Zombie.  He couldn't even sign his name.
Pretty much gave up on all the "specialists" and relied on narcotics. Willing to try anything at this point as he is suicidal!  Anyone tried Zomig?  Haven't seen it posted.
He is in one of the worst episodes again, with a CH coming everyday, sometimes twice a day, sometimes three. Three Extra strength Vicodin doesn't even phase him,  He sits in the corner of the bathroom with the lights out with a towel on his head with tears streaming down his face from the pain for hours!

Hello Weinhexe (Wine witch??)

Welcome to the board!
Sorry your husband is suffering like this.

Zomig has actuallly been discussed quite a lot on the board if you try the Search facility above this page.

In general the feeling is that the pill form, like all others is too slow but some success has been reported with the nasal.

Some have found success using the pill form occasionally as a short term preventive (i.e to buy a few hours sleep, and I personally take one when I use my 02 to abort as it can mop-up any rebounds I get later.

The preferred Triptan for CH is Sumatriptan not Zolmitriptan (Imitrex injections or nasal rather than Zomig) and many people here have success using this and 02 as their main abortives.

Narcotics. Well, I wouldn't! They are not very effective for CH, and can do harm to boot! Which narcotics are we talking about here?
Vicodin?, probably also useless as painkillers don't really work for most CH sufferers either

Have a good read around the site and you will see what works for people here.

Good luck

Wendy

Thanks for the response!
I'll continue to seach all the info on this site.
I'm out of my mind trying to help the poor guy!
When you refer to O2, do you mean breathing Oxygen from a tank?

Yes that's the stuff. Pure liquid gold as far as I'm concerned.

Click the button to your left where it says "Oxygen Info" and you willl see what you need to know to maybe help your hubby without narcotics or maybe even drugs at all!

Welcome to the board,

Zomig (http://www.zomig.com/consumer_html/details/details.asp) was the first thing to work for me...after 20 plus years of trying. The Triptans (http://headaches.about.com/cs/druginfo/a/triptan_over.htm) rock!

Don't forget to try Oxygen (http://www.headachesupportgroups.com/oxygen/oxygen.htm), it works for a vast majority of us without bad side-effects.

For a more complete list of CH meds look here. (http://www.clusterheadaches.org/medications.htm)

For a list of more natural treatments look here. (http://www.clusterheadaches.org/resources/non_script_treat.htm)

And look here (http://www.clusterbusters.com/) for the best thing I have found yet! Not for everyone, but should be!

And tips for supporters can be found here. (http://www.clusterheadaches.org/family/fam_tips.htm)

Good luck,
Mark

Welcome Weinhexe !

The advice so far has been hit right on the head.   :) LOL

Read as much as you can. I find other Clusterhead's experiences are worth more than gold.

Good luck and PF vibes coming your hubbys way.

Weinhexe, since you're in New York, you might try to get your husband an appointment with Alexander Mauskop--he's a very knowledgable and understanding headache specialist.

Just found this site, have had clusted headaces for as long as i can remember, i thought i was the only one, could not belive how many peaple have the same problem, I have been using Zomig and it works for me, but in the uk you can only get them through your doctor, at the rate of 6 a time as you know we all have multiple hits, i usually have around 6 hits a day for about 2 months, allways this time of year, how does it effect you, i find the nights drive me mad, all the best Roger-uk :)
