Title: Infection??? - NonCH
Post by athos12 on Jan 5th, 2004, 12:08pm
I had minor surgey about 3 weeks ago.... incision about an inch long.

There was not much pain until  more than a week later...  They took the stitches out a week ago...

The color looked normal then slightly red.  Now it is purple red..  and the pain is increasing and in fact some areas the pain extends out roughly 3 inches from the incision....

I am not sure if this is normal part of healing after a surgery like this...

They took out a "calcified something" that was about an inch long and a 1/4 inch wide.  Appently it was a sliver of a horses tooth.

The only reason I am a little concerned is that it is getting more sore and not less.

Is the redness spreading?  Is it hot too touch?  Do you have a fever?  Watch out for all of this.  If the redness is spreading, it could mean an infection in the blood.  Please be very, very careful.  Let me know how you are doing!

It only slightly warmer than the surrounding skin....

Not sure if I have a fever or not...

Just feel particularly lousy...  plus been dealing with a 3 day bout with the beast..... kinda seems insignificant in comparrision...  haveing a short repreeve for the beast... so I can focus on a few other things....

The area is noticably swollen...  I can't see the actually incision due to the glued steri strips on it.

I'm no Dr., but it sounds like
some level of an infection.

Please see your Dr.

Sounds very much like it might be an infection.  The purple coloring and swelling is worrisome.

Don't wait...have your doc check it out.

It might be just nothing to worry about, but again serious infections can spread rapidly.

Listen to Donna!  Please get it checked.  I don't want you to end up in the hospital because of this.  You might even just want to call the Dr.  see what he has to say.  DO IT NOW!

It souuuunds like infection starting cellulitis.  Either way, doesnt sound "normal".  If its more sore, and more uncomfortable... not a good sign.

Get thee to the doctor.  Those glued steri-strips can cause problems.  :P

Agree with the others comments. At least call and talk to someone in the med profession. They will probably want to look at it. If it's an infection, it could easily spread.

I took the steristrips off to look at the incision just now... yuck. Seeping a thick sticky bloody gunk.....  At least it is not yellow or green.

The incision has seperated.  looked alot better with the stitches in it.

I have called and left a message for the nurse.

Red flag!!! red flag!!!............ call the doc for sure... I had a minor skin cancer removed and I didn't have pain... 3 or 4 days later, I was in throbbing severe pain. Not from the incision but from where the adhesive of the bandage was.  I was allergic to the adhesive... It burnt my skin and caused an infection in the perfect form of a square on my back.   Went back to the doc got antibiotics and was better quickly... good luck athos... ree

Ok...  Got it looked at... yes there is an infection.... I am on a 5 day Z-pack...  If that does not work, they will open it back up and scrape it out and start again...

Z-pack will work right?  Scraping the inside of my leg just does not sound that great

Have used Z Pack ......it's just about the best thing around.  Kind of expensive, but it works.

I'm really glad you went.  You wouldn't want a staph infection to get the upper hand  If the Z Pack doesn't work, please get back to the doc pronto.

A Z-pack is great.  It really should work.  I hope you don't have to have anything scraped.  I am so glad you listened to us!!!!!  At least someone around here listens.  :D

Glad you showed up finally, I was ready to start calling hospitals.
