How come it is...
if a cat leaves the house for a few days and comes home smelly, scraggly, but with a smile on his face, a woman will say its because he doesn't get enough love and affection at home.

If a dog wanders off for a few days and comes home smelly, etc, a woman will say its because he doesn't get enough love and affection at home.

but if a man wanders off for a few days, and tries to come home all smelly, scraggly, with an obvious smile on his face, he's a low down rotten no good bastard?
