you mean meds that might worsen it or help it? ibuprofen, tylenol and asprin are like sugar pills for me. codiene only helps if it's a kip 4-6. kip 7+ and i'm just high with a CH strong odors, espcially cigar smoke, anger the beast. i avoid mentholated things (cough drops, etc. for similar reasons). dry heat angers the beast, too, for me. the "triggers?" thread on page three in the general forum did have a more comprehensive list from others, though. many say they don't have triggers, and i've found that while i seem to have things that make the ch's worse, they don't necessarily bring them on. |

Title: Re: calling all chs need info stat PLEASE !!!!!S Post by marlin on Dec 16th, 2004, 6:37pm Other than booze, red wine in particular, REM sleep arouses my beast. That's when he gets real angry and throws me out of bed in the middle of the night. |

Title: Re: calling all chs need info stat PLEASE !!!!!S Post by RichardN on Dec 16th, 2004, 8:40pm Alchohol . . . .any form, real beer, brandy, wine (whine, whine). Also, you might think about quantity of food. A heavy meal can (and has) trigger a ch for me . . . . . the beast likes to attack when you relax. There was a thread on this quite a while ago, and I'm sure someone here still has the info. Cigar smoke also will kick in the shadows for me almost always. Luck and PFDANs to ya, Richard |

Title: Re: calling all chs need info stat PLEASE !!!!!S Post by CC2004 on Dec 16th, 2004, 9:01pm Once bout has started - BANANAS! cheese, yoghurt? maybe dairy products definitely champagne, sob :-[ Im fine with caffeine Im vegetarian and seem OK with nuts and eggs but have been taking it very easy on eggs because not sure about them - I have been eating a lot of toast and bread - thats safe! STRONG NON-FOOD TRIGGER is going from activity to inactivity - most evenings sitting down to eat or watch TV but Im wise to that now - I eat standing, and I dont sit for long just watching TV, if I do I periodically shake my head & move about - it works for me, but then of course inevitable bedtime, and then awake again 40-60 minutes later hope this helps - feel free to ask more take care and stay strong |

Title: Re: calling all chs need info stat PLEASE !!!!!S Post by CC2004 on Dec 16th, 2004, 9:15pm Ive been getting these for 28 years and used to go mad trying to figure it all out - I ended up thinking I had so many food triggers it couldnt be that, it must be the act of eating! This time after 28 years, I have made the connection with inactivity - that is a major trigger! I am an artist and sit on my bum at the easel all day, but I am working and active in my way. Too often as soon as I leave the studio, get something to eat and sit down to watch TV & relax while I eat, it strikes! (thats the nastiest thing about this beast - we get so wrecked and exhausted but so terrified of waking with another, because they are always worse when you're woken with them and they've just had that extra tiny bit of time to set in before you can get your meds... I stayed up for 72 hours at the beginning of this week because I was so terrified of getting another K10 but of course I had to sleep eventually - 6-9s since Yesterday I found this site and today I started magnesium and the water treatment so I have hope again |

Title: Re: calling all chs need info stat PLEASE !!!!!S Post by Biker on Dec 17th, 2004, 12:20am Too many nuts, or peanutbutter will trigger me. The smell of bacon, or eating bacon. Exhaust fumes, or potent fossile fuel type cleaning agents. Heat seems to be a trigger--working in mid summer. paint fumes. chochlate, or any of those cheap snacks ya get in a plastic wrapper. Stress-----like working in potentially dangersous places. Stress----like having the spouse question me about something I would rather not talk about. Stress---like seeing blue flashing lights in the rear view mirror-(that happened once ch made me pull off the road for over an hour) resting after a hard days work. any kind of alochol. smoking pot brought on ch When Im in my CH cycle, I think they just come on by themselves whenever they want to. These are just some of the triggers I have learned to avoid. |

Title: Re: calling all chs need info stat PLEASE !!!!!S Post by ski2k on Dec 17th, 2004, 2:59am Gotta agree with the inactivity trigger. Doesn't always happen, but I sure see a difference if I'm busy all day or just sitting around. Always makes you afraid to relax. No food triggers I have found. Helps me to eat a little something when the shadows hit. Good luck and PF wishes!!! ski |

Title: Re: calling all chs need info stat PLEASE !!!!!S Post by Sylvan on Dec 17th, 2004, 9:42am Still new to this - but here's a few things that seem to bring on the beast for me: 1. Sun glare 2. camera flash 3. skipping meals 4. Supressing the desire to choke the living Sh*t out of someone who desperately deserves it 5. Strong odors - especially cologne 6. And of course - the biggie - REM sleep. |

Title: Re: calling all chs need info stat PLEASE !!!!!S Post by docdog on Dec 19th, 2004, 6:54pm Well, I've been fighting the beast off and on for 13-14 years and have found that different cycles highlight different triggers. Alchohol, smoking, perfumes, nuts, chocolate, inactivity, and sleep or naps almost always bring out the beast. But sometimes the smell of gasoline when filling up the tank, bright sunshine on a snowy day, a hot environment, MSG, nitrates, some strong cheeses, too much reading, stress from job, any smell of smoke, etc. Hang in there. When you are in a cycle, keep a diary if you can and identify anything that seems to be a potential trigger for each CH. I've been doing that for years and while it never seemed to do any good, at least I felt like I was trying to find the silver bullet. |

Title: Re: calling all chs need info stat PLEASE !!!!!S Post by Chillrmn1 on Dec 26th, 2004, 8:54am Only two things I'm certain of trigger my clusters: 1. REM Sleep. 2. Alcohol - This I no longer partake in whether in cycle or not since it's a known trigger for me. I have driven myself crazy, or crazier, in the past trying to find a commonality or trigger for my clusters. Finally found peace, if that's possible, with myself by accepting that whenever that damn hypothalmus or whatever grey matter of the brain, etc., starts freaking out, the headache begins. PFDANS TO ALL FOR THE HOLIDAYS! |

Title: Re: calling all chs need info stat PLEASE !!!!!S Post by Kris_in_SJ on Dec 26th, 2004, 8:03pm When I'm in cycle, there are only 2 sure-fire triggers: 1) The clock striking 9:00 PM 2) Getting overheated while working at something physical I'm one of the rare few that alcohol doesn't trigger, but I've always been triggered to illness by perfumes (not CH, just some weird allergy reaction). Title: Re: calling all chs need info stat PLEASE !!!!!S Post by Wendy1 on Dec 30th, 2004, 11:04pm My Order.... 1. Alcohol (ESPECIALLY Red Wine) 2. Heat, temperature, exercising, etc. 3. Talking on the phone can trigger one, i.e. getting tensed up. Driving, same thing. 4. MSG.... Processed foods like lunchmeats, cheese slices, hotdogs, etc. Good Luck |
