Title: Perfumes as a trigger Post by floridian on Nov 3rd, 2004, 3:35pm Just came across this article - synthetic 'musk' in perfumes not only messes up fish gill functions (at 300 parts per billion or less!) Humans also have a similar barrier surrounding the brain. These 'musks' are hypothesized to interfere with the human blood brain barrier, which would let in all kinds of unwanted molecules and further disrupt brain function. Not sure if this has anything to do with how perfumes trigger cluster headaches, but it might. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2004/10/041030223254.htm |

Title: Re: Perfumes as a trigger Post by kimh on Nov 3rd, 2004, 6:51pm Thanks Flo :-* Here's what i think ;;D We are too hung up on what "smells good" and thus the huge stink. Also, same could be said of germs. we are just too frenzied about killing them that we are killing ourselves and everything around us. Yep, we shall all go out with a wimper - our innerds will smell like glade and dirty feet will wipe out the population. Einstein's mistress |

Title: Re: Perfumes as a trigger Post by don on Nov 4th, 2004, 11:48am Funny this comes up. I just got an invitation to go listen to a therapist discuss how workers can preserve themselves through aroma therapy. Two hours of tree hugging therapy. My question is how many conditions will he/she trigger with his/her theraputic aromas. I already know what aromas benefit me. Broilled scallops is one of them. |

Title: Re: Perfumes as a trigger Post by sandie99 on Nov 4th, 2004, 11:58am Hmm... I'm having horrible CH time and there is musk soap in the house. I wonder if soap can make similar impact on my head than perfumes have to some...? sandie99 |

Title: Re: Perfumes as a trigger Post by vig on Nov 4th, 2004, 3:18pm I have a terrible time around scents. From diesel fumes, to grannies, to household cleaning CHemicals. I can even tell when the local furniture factory is cranked up by the lacquer smell. OuCH! Run for it! |

Title: Re: Perfumes as a trigger Post by taraann on Nov 4th, 2004, 8:20pm My favorite all time smell used to be bleach. I felt the house smelled cleaner when it smelled like bleach. I cleaned EVERYTHING with diluted bleach in a spray bottle, until I found out what a huge trigger it is for me. My husband brought that to my attention, how I did not notice the correlation myself is beyond me ::) Certain colognes and perfumes are a trigger for me, seems the stronger the odor the worse it is. |

Title: Re: Perfumes as a trigger Post by BobG on Nov 15th, 2004, 3:32am Places I can’t stay in very long: 1. The endless perfume aisles in the big stores like Macy’s. 2. The detergent/soap/cleaning stuff aisles in grocery stores. 3. Any of those places that sell scented candles. 4. The restroom at the Greyhound bus station. 5. Jail. |

Yeah... What BobG said. My worst place is the detergent aisle at the store. My wife even waits until after I leave the bedroom in the morning to put on her perfume. If I'm there when she first puts it on, Wham!!! It's not that bad after she's had it on for an hour or so. |
