Not directly related to the heart defect part, but is related to decreased O2 levels. I have noticed that when in cycle, if I am involved in meetings at work in a small room with many people, doors closed and no ventilation, I would get a CH, even though I rarely get them at work because I'm too busy. I now place myself near the door, insist that the door remains partly open and just tell everyone I'm going to get a CH if I don't. I never had anyone complain.

DJ,
My deceased Father in Law was the only person to ever learn what a malady it is we suffer from, His heart was failing and only pumping like 18 percent when he started having a headache that mimiced Clusters to a tee!
He apologized to me for ever doubting the pain I suffer when they started, he suffered constantly with them until he finally expired. He also went through some period of dementia associated with this too!
Near the end he was seeing people that were not there and actually thought my Mother In Law was running a gambling parlor out of her home, never was anyone there but her and on occassion my wife and I!

Surgery to repair that heart problem reduces migraine. Sounds like an oxygen issue.

17/40 is only a problem if you believe there is a single cause. The other 23 could have lung problems that reduce oxygenation, sleep apnea, carbon monoxide from smoking or occupational exposure, faulty neurons that regulate breathing, weird hemoglobin, etc etc.

Yeah, but wouldn't all have *low* ,blood oxygen levels, which would become a reliable diagnostic tool?

Not necessarily, not all the time. Sleep apnea is probably a factor in 30-80% of clusterheads, depending on whose numbers you look at ... but only at night. Alcohol may work by hitting the aryl hydrocarbon receptors, but it also depresses respiration - (and alcohol is only a problem in cycle, indicating that something else is going on.) Wish this shite wasn't so complicated.
