Title: still new to it when will it stop? Post by cwp2002 on Oct 13th, 2004, 4:25pm I am still new to CH about 3 months or so give or take a week. i don't know if my HA are odd or not but they tend to come 2X a day for 4 days then off a day but not always there have been times when I expected a vacation and didn't get it. I have been doing this like I said for 3 months and am wondering what is the norm? |

Title: Re: still new to it when will it stop? Post by ArCane on Oct 13th, 2004, 4:27pm There is no set amount of time for a cycle to last. It ends when it ends and not before. |

Hi CWP. 4 days on & 1 day off is NOT a cycle. It's just a day off to recoup for the next 4 days. My cycles run anywhere from 8-18 weeks. Hope your cycle ends soon. Sounds like it should. Keep the faith. |

Title: Re: still new to it when will it stop? Post by Mr. Happy on Oct 13th, 2004, 8:07pm The only way you'll find a "Norm" around here is if you spend the night at Cheers Bar and Grill. There ain't no norm, no matter, no way, no how. Constant vigilance, RJ |

Title: Re: still new to it when will it stop? Post by Kris_in_SJ on Oct 13th, 2004, 8:12pm Hi, Quite honestly, I have to say that I'm not sure how long my cycles would last without the magic of Verapamil. Once I'm up to 480mg/day, I start on the downswing. My most recent cycle with Verap, I was active for about 5 weeks. I stayed at high dose for about 5 weeks after that. Have been slowly weaning off the Verapamil for the past 3 months - down to 120mg/day now with no relapse. Hoping this one is over! Are you taking a preventative? Best Wishes for PFDAN. Kris |

Title: Re: still new to it when will it stop? Post by TxBasslady on Oct 14th, 2004, 1:05am Everyone is so different. I don't think CH is the same for any 2 or 3 of us. The beast comes and goes at will. Be prepared for any day, anytime. My hits always come in the middle of the night. Melatonin has been a God-send for me. It works! For shadows, I take Excedrin Migraine. As long as these 2 work for me, I will take them. Besides.....it lets me stockpile my triptan's. The fewer triptan's I have to take, the better off I am. Good luck..... PF vibes, Jean |

Title: Re: still new to it when will it stop? Post by cschick on Oct 14th, 2004, 6:42am I started again 10/01 - have had 3 PFN since then. No rhyme or reason to it they just happen when they happen. Take them and be grateful when they do. Last year my cycle lasted about 6 weeks and then wham nothing for a year. Now they are back and stronger than ever. This site is FULL of information - take some time and read everything you can and listen to the people here and discuss the options they give you with your Dr. It makes you crazy, makes you sick, makes you curse life and pray to die, but every moment of every CH you make it thru makes you stronger. Keep on! Karen |

Title: Re: still new to it when will it stop? Post by cwp2002 on Oct 14th, 2004, 6:03pm So Great, Just what I wanted to know, I can't schedule a vacation yet. I am not doing well with the beta blocker I am on. I go to the neuro Next tuesday. Hope to try something else.... by the looks of things I need to get a grab bag of different meds to try... Hey maybe I could fill a pinata...... |

Title: Re: still new to it when will it stop? Post by Kris_in_SJ on Oct 14th, 2004, 9:20pm Beta-blockers work for some, but those old Calcium channel-blockers are even better. So sorry - it is confusing and frustrating to have a disease that affects everyone a little differently (same with the meds). Here's my favorite link. Print it out - maybe your doc will like it too: http://www.future-drugs.com/admin/articlefile/ERN020304.PDF Good luck, Kris |

Title: Re: still new to it when will it stop? Post by Charlie on Oct 15th, 2004, 6:27pm Mine would last for about 3 or 4 weeks, twice....sometimes 3 times a year. When the episode stops, it's sudden. My cycles seemed to peter out and get farther and farther apart for a week until they ended altogether. Good luck and let us know what happens. Charlie |

Title: Re: still new to it when will it stop? Post by Gator on Oct 16th, 2004, 12:01am Buckle up there. You are in for a bumpy ride. I've been playing guinea pig for a year now and still haven't found a preventative that works. Neuro had high hopes for the Trileptal/Nortriptyline combo. Shrink even threw a little Halcion into the mix just for fun. Alas, it was not to be. I go back to the neuro Monday to see what kind of concoction he's come up with next. In the mean time, at least I have my O2 and trex. Hang in there. You'll do fine. Just come in here and holler if you need to bend an ear. There is usually always someone around. Gator |
