Title: The Beast isn't playing fair...
Post by Valerie on Oct 5th, 2004, 11:20am
I know - it's the understatement of the year!!

I think it's mad at me for trying to squash it with Zomig.  I got hit this moring at 5:30 and it started out pretty mild so I thought it wouldn't get too bad.  I was wrong, it got really bad - I decided to try and deal with it because I didn't want to waste the Zomig - I wasn't sure if it would work late into the attack.  Anyway, it lasted for about an hour, I was so drained that I crawled back into bed.  I woke up an hour later with another attack - this time I took the Zomig and it worked.  I'm not sure if I had 2 back to back attacks - that's never happened to me or if I had one long, long attack.

Frustrated, Mad, and Annoyed in Ohio

Your second attack occured because you went back to sleep.

I go back to sleep a lot of times after my attack - especially if it's at night.  I usually feel really drained and beat down after an attack and the only thing I can do is go lay down and go to sleep.

Hey Val ....Have you gotten a script for O2 yet?  You'd be amazed at how quick it aborts an attack!! :) Steve

I tried it during my last cycle 2 year ago - it didn't work for me, but I don't know if I had a non-rebreather mask.  I have an appt with a neuro on Nov 5 (an eternity away) and I'll be sure to see if I can try it again.

Did it look like this?

No, it was just a plastic little mask that went over my mouth and nose - now I know - I wondered why the oxygen never worked for me.  Plus it's not real fun to have huge oxygen tanks next to your bed when you normally feel like a healthy person.  I guess rocking in the corner with a droopy watery eye and nose isn't very "normal" either!

But not for everyone. O2 has no effect on my CH.

If you must go back to sleep try it with your head elevated or sitting in the La-Z-Boy.

I'm with Don, falling back to sleep is asking for trouble.
Even if I'm exhausted...  I have to get up and do something.... where the heck do think all these pictures come from?

I pretty much sleep like this all the time.  When I can sleep at all that is.  Ba$tard doesn't usualy let me get much more than a few hours a night.

I'd definitely retry the O2, even if you did use the right mask last time.  Things that didn't work have a way of working later on.  Unfortunately, the converse is also true.  Things that worked last time may not work next time.  You're right - beast does not play fair at all.

Don...if O2 doesn't work for you then you probably don't have clusters. Please check the links to the left.

The beast plays fair....perfectly fair...we just don't like his rules. He's misunderstood....needs love and attention. He was on Dr. Phil and is coming to grips with the issues he has. A trigeminal nerve assaulted him when he was young.

I know what you mean.  The first time the guy delivered the tank to my place he said, "Is this for you?  Oh, I usually deliver to old folks' homes."  What a jerk.
