Title: really scared now
Post by becky8 on Sep 22nd, 2004, 12:21pm
Read: clusterheadaches or other?

Its mine and I told my symptoms and 2 people responded that it sounds like CH, but now I am really really freaked cause mine are not real bad but they said they start out not bad and get worse!! Has anyone had them for a long time and they stayed mostly the same? Please please let me know. and does anyone know if amitripyline as a preventive helps at all, cause thats what my Dr. put me on. The Dr's not a neruo.

How long do the headaCHes last?

CH has different patterns for different people.
It' progressive for some, it goes away for others, and it stays constant for some.

Amitryptaline worked for me to get rid of a cycle, but it took a week to get started and the side effects were nasty.  It made me a zombie, and well, since you're a female, maybe you won't have the OTHER problem.

There's better medicine available, look around, study up, and see a neurologist too.

Good luck

Sorry Becky - we are all here for you. It's scary, but you have to resist giving in to the fear. The devil will try to defeat you - BUT YOU DON"T HAVE TO LET IT!From everything I've read here you want to get on Verapamil (I started it yesterday) first. Hang in there. [smiley=hug.gif]

If they are clusters, they will get worse. Mine are relatively weak in the first months of a cycle and always build from there.
No need to be scared though... It's not like you're gonna die.
Get to a neuro, preferably one that specializes in headaches, get properly diagnosed and get medication. It's not THAT bad with the right meds most of the time.

I thought I just had migraines.... back in 1997 when they started out at a kip scale of maybe a 6 ....

but there was never a clear pattern, and the pain started to come and go, every 2 or 3 hours at a time...
sometime the pain was only a 4, but I still had the droopy eye, and light sensitivity......

sometimes it's worse....

Don't fret about each episode getting worse..or even when or if they will come back.  Just take each day as it comes, and get through what ever comes your way.

We are lucky... there is no brain damage associated with this intense pain.  Unlike some epilepsy, or seizures... and this is not a stroke or anything like that.

The pain is not gonna kill us....
so keep the faith,  and hold onto hope...

Someday, some way....

TJ

Hai,

It's true most of the time the you can handle the pain (You have no choice)  with the right medicine you will get through.

But ones in the so many times you got hit real bad and like everyone say it won't kill us...
But we like to kill our self though... :-[

My post was a panic post its now a vew days later en I'm oke. I'm cronic I can live with that I work (mostly I get hit at night about three times) but with the imitrex and verapermil I do have a life.

Ninet

always look at the bright sight of life :)

Hi Becky,
Its easy to get freaked after reading this board but that is because its all about CH. Most people here lead relatively normal lives with with jobs, families, hobbies etc. We just have a little issue of occassional head pain to deal with.
There are medications and alternative treatments to deal with it and most people deal with it successfully. Your cycle may happen a couple times a year or it may happen every couple of years or in a very few cases it is constant. For me it is every 2-3 years for a couple of weeks. Thats not realy a big deal when you consider the medical problems that some other people have to deal with. What ever your cycle is don't worry about it, accept it and deal with it.
The first thing you need to do is get to a knowledgabe headcahe specialist/neuro and get a proper diagnosis.
