Title: In the ear?
Post by Robert_C. on Aug 6th, 2004, 6:41am
I never know where the next stabbing will be on my head.  But for the last few months I've been waking up with an icepick in my right ear.

I've got it check by a ENT specialist (you know, ear, nose..) who even put a tube up my nose to go see up my ear (?) and didn't find anything.  NOT a pleasant experience. (should have asked him if he saw the little workers in my head). [smiley=damncomputer.gif]

Anybody else with this kind of pain?

Robert

Oh Yeah....

When I'm in the worst part of my cycle, I wake up with one entire side of my head hurting like that.

Before being dignosed, I went to the GP several times to get looked at to see if I had a sinus infection or an ear infection.

When a strong one hits, it gets me behind my eye, then moves on to the temple then inside my ear, and then on to my teeth making a toothache in every tooth on that side. It finally gets to the back of my headjust behind my ear.

The pain basically follows a nerve that sits behind the eye and runs in that same general direction. I forget the name of it but if you ask around, someone will get you a link to it.

Pain in any area that is close to this nerve is common and almost expected with CHs.

Pat

Thanks Pat.

The pain is all over like yours.  It's just a new thing that it would start in the ear and goes down the teeth and throat instead of doing the regular "Sites seeing" tour.  :-/

Maybe I'm cured! ;;D  and now have something else.  :'(

Mine has been very consistant.  Eye, jaw joint, forehead and back of the head.  Has pretty much stayed in the same spots since I've had CH.  the only one that moves is the forehead on, kinda drifts around with each cycle.

PFDAN!

Mine hurt in all those places at the same time too.

The most intense part moves around though.

If it hurts real bad behind my eye and I can't stand it any more, I press against my eye for a while and the intense part will go to my ear or the back of my head.

It's called the trigeminal nerve.

And that thing fires like crazy when I'm peaking.

Yikes!!!!!

Feel yo pain and guarantee you most here do. Those are part of the symptoms. Sucks but that's how it is right!?

Feel good fellas,
E

I knew someone would find a picture of it.

Someone else had a better pic of it here once.

This one is sufficient though.

The part by the eyeball actually runs directly behind it and I think it extends a little bit further towards the back of the head.

I've found that if I put some pressure on the area above the ear (where the nerve looks like a big blob) during a bad attack, it will give a little temporary relief.

I constantly wear a cap at work to help a little. This may or may not help anyone else with CH since all have their own unique way of suffering/relieving CH pain but it helps me a little.

Thanks for the picure E_Double.

I like # 2& 3 kinda icky. haha

Pressure definitely alleviates some discomfort.
I press my thumb behind my ear?neck and my fingers into my temples.

sometimes I can even be discrete making it look like I'm just deep in thought. paying attention to what everyone is saying when I'm really thinking "this sucks!"

Hi

I Experience something in my right ear. It feels like a cramp but it doesnt really hurt.
Since i take verapamil, i've been pretty much pain free but i can still feel when i should have an attack. Or it is my ear that contracts or my eye that twitches or there is a lil fella with a tiny knife jabbing gently just to let me know: "i havent forgotten about you, my time will come"

Double E  Like the picture.

that is where my head hurts when i get in cycle

lump in neck, then teeth hurt, up to the eye , front of head . then to ear  and down neck.  just the reverse when it starts to go away.

ah yes i forgot the nose on fire just like when you eat horeradish.

Thanks Eric,  That helps explain alot for me!  I have a muscle in my jaw that just goes into massive spasms and I could never figure out the why until now.  I knew it was CH related, but beyond that it didn't make sense.

Thanks bro,

John

Marc finds that putting pressure on the temple area and rubbing it in circles can make the pain sharper but can sometimes stop an attack quite quickly - other times it can make an attack die down but then other times it doesnt help at all!

Doesn't it happen to all of us?

Do that too sometimes.  For some reason the pressure seems to accentuate and relieve the pain at the same time (very weird).  Anything that will modify the pain will work for me.

And it does SUCK!!![smiley=hurl.gif]
