Title: TMJ and CH
Post by Olivias_Dad on Jun 23rd, 2004, 8:49am
I was just wondering if any CH sufferers have TMJ.
I was about 14 when I got into a school yard fight and was hit hard on the right side of my jaw.

Since then, when I open my jaw I can deliberately make a popping sound but it won't happen under normal circumstances. i.e.; eating talking etc....

I'm not sure if the Trigeminal nerve was somewhat damaged by this incident and hence started the CH. But it seems that I do get the headaches at cyclical times and at night, duration and other clinical signs point to CH,  but it seems to start at the ramus.

I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Michael

Nope, no TMJ for me.

I don't think you will find a common connection between TMJ and CH.  Odds are, that incident did not set off your CH like symptoms.  No one knows what causes CH (yet).

I have TMJ, though lately it has been pretty tame.  Wish I could say the same about my clusters.

Head and Jaw injuries are more common in clusterheads than the general public. So are allergies.  These may aggravate clusters or increase the risk of getting them.  But there's no guarantee that treating them will help clusters.  If the jaw (or the allergies, or the _____) are a problem, they are worth dealing with on their own. Maybe you will be lucky enough for your headaches to improve. But often there is no change.

Some thoughts - 1) work with a doctor to get diagnosed. 2) What is the ramus??
