Title: BEWARE: Topamax...
Post by Bill_Roundtree on Jun 8th, 2004, 2:05am
Just to let those who might not know (and it may have been discussed here before?)...I was on Topamax for about a week when I started seeing blotches, spots and overall wierd "things". I told my doctor and instead of "tapering" off the med she told me to stop taking immediately because one of the side effects is irreversable vision damage (or studies have shown at least).
I don't know if it is completely true (all people react different to different meds), but to all Topamax users it might be an idea to check into the research if you don't have much info on it. But then again-when you're a cluster victim, when the pain comes on you'll sacrifice almost anything for relief anyway...and suddenly research doesn't mean jack...

You gotta love how A LOT of the meds prescribed to help the headaches actually have headaches as a side effect.  What's that crap all about?

I hated Dopeamax.  I went from intelligent to duh in no time.  The neuro warned my wife to watch for slurred speech and blurry vision (signs of a stroke) and what is a side effect of topamax --  Slurred Speech!  Luckily I didn't get that side effect.

You are correct though.  Side effects are sometimes a secondary concern if the med stops the pain.

What was your dosage Bill?

My mom told me I would go blind, but I did not think she meant due to Topa.  ;;D
