Title: Re: O2 SETTING Post by Dave_W on Jun 1st, 2004, 8:15pm HeadBanger: Most docs write 7-10 liters per minute, but in most CH'ers experience it takes a bit more. 15 lpm is common. Some even use up to 20. A non-rebreather mask is important... I've found that about 8 lpm works usually for me, but if it doesn't, then cranking it on up usually does the trick. Good luck! |

Title: Re: O2 SETTING Post by Ueli on Jun 2nd, 2004, 12:20pm The non-rebreather mask is very important. In fact, it is the key to success of the O2 treatment. If filling your lungs with 100% oxygen brings relieve in 10 minutes, then only 80% oxygen will take 15 - 20 minutes or longer. Many contraptions issued are labeled "oxygen mask", but this only means they don't burst out in flames when coming into contact with O2. Many of them are designed to dilute the oxygen with lots outside air, making then almost as useless as the nose cannulas for the treatment of CH. So insist on getting a non-rebreather mask! Title: Re: O2 SETTING Post by mynm156 on Jun 2nd, 2004, 12:34pm Hey There, It might not matter however the more 02 U can get the quicker it should work. Nasal cannulas are low flow systems onluy designed to deliver less than 6 lpm what they call a Simple Mask will deliver NO LESS THAN 4 and up too 10 lpm. A Non Rebreather set up really needs only to have enough O2 to keep the bag from deflating whenever someone breathes so that is usually around 10-15 lpm. MYNM156 |
