I am soliciting votes for my son Andy for Readers Digest  ”Hero of the Year”.  The article on him was in the December issue.  Then I get the January issue and, damn, there he is as one of the 12 up for Hero of the Year.  (The avalanche was in November, 2002.)  He has been a true supporter to me ever since he was old enough to walk.  When he was 3 he would give me his teddy bear for comfort, last summer he flew home from college to see me during my latest cycle just for a little “cheering up”.  It didn’t do much for the CH’s but it sure was a shot in the arm for the ol’ attitude, which was getting pretty low.

Go to  www.rd.com  and click on the magazine cover.  There will be a link to Everyday Heroes, click on it and scroll down.  In the lower right corner is a picture of Andy titled “The Mountain Climber”.

Now I don’t want to influence voting but……vote for Andy.

OK, OK........voted for him, great hero stuff and all.........but dang........it was at the expense of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania women's rugby team.

Done...a very inspiring story.  I shattered my knee cap last January.  They removed most of it.  I only have about a quarter size piece holding things together.  The most painful thing in my life.  Andy must have great strength and determination of will and spirit.

I did it.  I think that I still have a couple more issues of RD coming to me left, so hopefully I'll get to see Andy being the Hero of the Year! ;;D
