Title: HERE IS GARMAR21's CURE Post by Jayne on Nov 26th, 2003, 5:08pm I pm'd him and asked him what the cure was and he shared with me. Here was his answer "Get ahold of some 2% viscous lidocaine and when you feel the headache coming on put it on a Q tip and put it back in the affected side of your nose. I do it three times and snort it in. I hope it helps. " |

Title: Re: HERE IS GARMAR21's CURE Post by Jayne on Nov 26th, 2003, 5:26pm more info from garmar21 "-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can ask your doctor to get a prescription. It is only a problem if you are allergic to lidocaine. They have a nose spray that is available also. That way you wont jam the q tip in to far. Doctors know of this but are reluctant to prescrib it for some reason" |

Title: Re: HERE IS GARMAR21's CURE Post by BobG on Nov 26th, 2003, 5:33pm Hey garmar, Fun and games aside. We've had some fun. Thanks. Lots of scams about "cures" have come across this board ever since it started. We can't be scammed with the word "cure". Your suggestion just happens to be an "old" abortive method known for years. If you really do suffer from cluster headaches please let us know, tell us about your self. We have lots of information, and really do want to help. Let us know. |

Title: Re: HERE IS GARMAR21's CURE Post by chronic_chic on Nov 26th, 2003, 11:41pm You gotta be careful with lidocaine too! It causes heart arrythmias and such at certain doses. It does abort headaches...especially IV :) But it is a quite an old technique. At one point they'd given up on it altogether, but now some centers are starting to bring it back. I had some success with it helping my chronic headache symptoms when I was inpatient, but I wouldn't recommend it's use without checking heart first! |

Title: Re: HERE IS GARMAR21's CURE Post by chronic_chic on Nov 26th, 2003, 11:54pm Hi nancyc, Yea! When I was last in the hospital (June - July), it was a relatively new thing they were trying again. I think I was only the 2nd person they were trying it on. I did IV lidocaine for about 10 days. I was in the cardiac ICU for the first 3 days I think, and then on the Intermediate Cardiac Care Unit for the rest of the time. I have some tachycardia and a few blood pressure issues, so I have to watch out for that stuff, but the cardiologists just brush over it because I'm only 22. However, the lidocaine did wind up bringing my chronic headache down to about a 2 or 3 by the time I left the hospital. It wasn't permanent relief, but it did help for a little while! Better than the usual ole treatment I was getting every time I went inpatient! :) Don't know if everyone gets that success, and there WERE a fair amount of side effects, though. I just think it's not a drug to play around with without significant medical supervision! |

Title: Re: HERE IS GARMAR21's CURE Post by chronic_chic on Nov 27th, 2003, 12:14am Hey nancyc, I actually suffer from a form of chronic daily headache known as New Daily Persistent Headache. I do share a few features of cluster headache as of more recent times, such as waking at night with severely stabbing headaches, and I get stabbing orbital headaches several times a day...up to 20 at times. But when I tried the lidocaine, I didn't have those problems much. It was more for the NDPH. I don't know all that well how effective it is in treating cluster, but you never know. Could be worth checking into with neuro at least. Since I was treated so early in the game in their procedures of doing this inpatient, I don't even know what types of patients they were trying it on, other than refractory patients in an inpatient setting who weren't responding at all to traditional treatments. So, that's about all I know about it...I will have to look into it more and see what I can find. Good luck though! :) ~Lizz :) |
