Every shadow I get, starts the congestion and pain in the sinuses and if it is a heavy shadow then my eye even starts to pulse. Sorry wish I could help more. Tiannia |

Title: Re: Sinus related symptoms Post by ClusterChuck on Nov 21st, 2003, 12:11pm I am one of those that has a real faucet for a nose when I am gettin a hard hit. More of an annoyance than anything else. I don't worry or concern myself about it, as my main concern is the freeking pain in my head, not my nose. Chuck |

Title: Re: Sinus related symptoms Post by Mac on Nov 21st, 2003, 2:13pm I'm beginning to wonder if sinus infections have more of a direct role in Ch's than the "experts think. When I was nailed with my first Ch 3 1/2 years ago I WAS diagnosed with 3 different sinus infections at the same time. One was the worst you could get - haema something. It can kill kids under the age of five. The next three years I battled this "sinus infection"(after I was cured of the sinus infections) when all along it was Ch's. The problem I find with the average doc is that they don't seem to know the correlation between sinus and Ch's.They just keep feeding you antibiotics and sending you to sinus and allergy specialists. It was actually the allergist that suggested they could be clusters. When I finally got to a headache specialist he told me the correlation. I don't have much trouble with my sinuses anymore even during an attack. I use Imitrex nasal spray.I wonder if that has something to do with my lack of sinus problems? hmmmmm... |

Title: Re: Sinus related symptoms Post by BobG on Nov 21st, 2003, 2:42pm I think you'll find that almost every clusterhead was first diagnosed with sinus trouble, then dental problems, then ear-nose & throat problems, then eye trouble. In other words, the doctor didn't know what was going on and wouldn't admit it. Just guessed his way through it. |

Title: Re: Sinus related symptoms Post by Miklos on Nov 21st, 2003, 2:59pm Two years ago my GP gave me a prescription nasal spray (Afrin? or something or other). It cleared up the collateral sinus problems pretty well during my episodes. He specifically prescribed it because he had heard it "might" help stop a cluster headache. It worked about 50% of the time if I took it as close to the headache onset as possible. Sorry I can't remember the exact name. I searched a bit, and now believe the brand names is Nasonex. In any case, the first thing I use when a headache starts is my trusty Dristan nasal spray. It seems to help the sinus congestion. After that I grab the ice pack. Have not been prescribed abortives so far, only preventatives. However... Come January that IS going to change! (Yes, I use O2, but it does not work for me when I am wakened from sleep.) |

Title: Re: Sinus related symptoms Post by BobG on Nov 21st, 2003, 5:42pm Click on this.........it's a picture of the trigeminal nerve. (It's the orange colored one). You can see the top branch over and under the eye, right where you'd expect sinus pain to be. http://www.clusterheadaches.org/library/general/trigeminal_pic.htm |
