Title: Women and Clusters -- now a reason! Post by BarbaraD on Nov 16th, 2003, 5:51am Found this on a headache website. Thought is was interesting...... Recent studies indicate that cluster headaches may be occurring more frequently or are being diagnosed more often among women than in the past.2, 3 The reasons for this are unclear. One possible explanation is that as women have moved into social and workplace roles once occupied primarily by men, they may be experiencing more of the stresses associated with these roles. Now we know WHY women get clusters... If we'd just stayed at home barefoot and pregnant we could have avoided this disease!!!! Think I'll go back to my knitting now.... Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Women and Clusters -- now a reason! Post by pubgirl on Nov 16th, 2003, 9:04am Chuck ;;D You'd be deader if you do what most Doctors do (and my own pet theory why most women don't get diagnosed) i.e. Tell us it's migraine caused by our hormones! Grrrrrrrr Wendy |

Title: Re: Women and Clusters -- now a reason! Post by BarbaraD on Nov 16th, 2003, 9:56am Sure Grant, just as soon as the "stress" of "helping" the men out gets out of my system and I quit having these damn headaches..... I'm going back to "women's" work! :-/ Now, let's see - what day am I the school monitor? What kid has to be WHERE? Who left dirty socks in a pile in the bathroom? You're bringing WHO home for dinner? What do you mean the Checking account is overdrawn? No, honey the pants are ironed even if the zipper is cold! It's YOUR dog - you take care of him!!! Aweeeee, I long for those "unstressful" days........ :'( Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Women and Clusters -- now a reason! Post by BarbaraD on Nov 16th, 2003, 11:31am Chuck -- just remembering WHY I went out in the big world to WORK!!!! Ok, another theory on this one.... [smiley=huh.gif] When I was a "non-working" mother, I NEVER got RELIEVED of the stress. Getting out into the "man's" world RELIEVED the stress. It was like a "vacation" compared to being a "stay at home Mom"..... And Jonny, maybe women DON'T get CH -- it's just that we've been out in the Man's World so long we THINK we do. And I voted against women's lib -- burned my bra and no one even noticed!! ;;D Come on girls, jump right in here --- I'm being ganged up on!!!!!! :'( Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Women and Clusters -- now a reason! Post by ckelly181 on Nov 16th, 2003, 4:22pm Well, it's been confirmed. I'm woman, I have no stress, so these things are all .. uh .. in my head..?? I'm going to return the 02 tomorrow and try to come up with a different diagnosis... Accorging to http://www.medindia.net/patients/calculators/life_stressor.asp: The Medindia Life stress calculator indicates that you are leading a stress free life. Yay...happy dance...course, it could be hormones. I've yet to determine that I don't have those. Chris |

Title: Re: Women and Clusters -- now a reason! Post by sandie99 on Nov 17th, 2003, 6:37am Oh, women DO get clusters! >:( But I still don't think that stress is the only cause... otherwise there would be loads of more clusterheads than there is. And I would be happily cluster pain-free... Besides, what about the study made by Peter Goadsby, Professor of Clinical Neurology at the Institute of Neurology, University College of London? In the study the Headache group found out that us clusterheads have interesting grey cells in the area of hypothalamus, in the same very spot the cluster pain arrives. And that we have those cells there all the time, with or without ch and non-clusterheads don't... Best wishes & PFdays, sandie99 |

It was like a "vacation" compared to being a "stay at home Mom"..... I totally agree there! ;) I worked full time with the first 2 cause I was single :P I spent a year part time after the 3rd cause I finally found a good man who said it was my choice :D After the fourth- I thought I would try to be a stay at home mom [smiley=laugh.gif] That was funny ;;D It lasted about 8 monthes at which point my husband decided it wasn't my choice any more and sent me back to work because I was soooo stressed :o that he couldn't stand me being home all the time anymore. I got Clusters wether I was working or not! |
