Title: ch freak?
Post by sandie99 on Oct 14th, 2003, 6:02am
Hi!  :)

I have been reading about ch lately.
One question came to my mind: am I just very unlucky or ch freak? :o

I read that many ch sufferers smoke or have smoked in the past and drink quite a lot. But, I've never smoked in my life (but parents have; I'm the one who made them give up) and I'm not much of a drinker, either. My aldohol dose is twice a year in maximum, none since I was diagnosed with ch.

So, how is it with you guys?

PF days to everybody,
sandie99

Sandie

While there are a few like you, its probably safe to say that most clusterheads smoke AND drink.   (I'll be ducking now!  ;) )

Myself...   Smoke like a chimney and quit drinking 66 days ago.  :D   (not that I drank THAT much, but given my current employment/financial situation, it was a necessity.  >:( )

Hi Sandie,

I'm with Grant's thinking that a large amount of CHers drink and smoke.

Personally, I don't smoke and never have, though my Dad used to and my Mom still does.

As for drinking, I'm no where near a heavy drinker, only having on average 8-10 drinks in a year.  No beer for me though - I'm very allergic to the yeast in it.  I'm more of a midori sour kinda gal  :)

Hullo, Sandie!

I don't smoke - never have - and don't drink.

As I have said before, I don't think you'll find much in the way of a concrete connexion between either smoking or drinking and CH.  It is my theory that smoking and drinking are just ways people cope, and since CH gives you a LOT with which to cope, smoking and drinking follow.

Just my two cents.

I don't smoke, never have. I drink wine (usually about 1/2 glass) about 5 times a year - usually not red, because of the tannens. This has never triggered a ha.

Last month, I went to a casino mid-cycle - by the time I got home I was a raging 9-10. My thinking: secondhand-smoke...

Chris - female, non-smoker, light drinker...I can't POSSIBLY have ch!!!

"am I just very unlucky or ch freak?"

I think I'm both.... An unlucky CH freak.

I don't drink or smoke either...

I must've gotten in the wrong line.

I smoke alot...I dont drink at home very often now, maybe a beer or two...Figured out awhile back, it is not good to drink alone......but when i am on vacation, i jump in the blenda....but i , too, feel this is more of a way for some to cope than a reason for chs.... ;Dnancyc

Smoked for around 30 years. Quit 2 months ago.  Drink only blush wine and Miller High Life (no CH with those), and get 2 sheets to the wind on occasion, more often when the pinhead and I are misaligned. :-X

I smoke.  And I drink only on occasion, usually only about once every couple months (but not in cycle, I tried drinking a month or so ago, did ok while I was out, but later that night and the next day were HELL with my CH's)

I smoke, drink when I want a drink (not often - I'm old I forget to drink). Gave up all my other bad habits. Don't think that's the trigger.

Drink WAAAAY too much coffee, but gotta do something....

Like to drink but don't do it alone. Never bothered my CH.

I haven't smoked since 1980 and my CH has been gone since 1991. You figure out.  ::)

Nah...I wouldn't say you're a freak because you have CH and don't smoke or drink......hell I don't generally drink either (mebbie I should start ::)) anywho.....I do smoke. The unique thing about clusters that I gather is that NOTHING about it is normal, each individual has their own unique set of triggers, remedies that help soothe, and medication regimens. the only commonality it seems is that we all have it......go figure eh? Keep thinking "outside of the box" so to speak cause if you've had this for very long you will be anyway without trying sooner or later. :)

Hope you guys/gals are better off than me
Ramon

Smoke still (many years now) and gave up alcohol about two years ago, still can't pinpoint why.  Don't think it was because of the CHs, maybe just cause I was a nasty vicious unhappy drinker.  Now i'm just nasty vicious and unhappy.  get bronchitis every summer -  i imagine cause of the cigarettes it lasts longer.  have taken amoxcycillin so often that that no longer helps clear it up.  cough up some nasty stuff and was told quit smoking and that will stop.  smoking don't bring mine on, but as soon as an attack is over i smoke several, probably like most people for the comfort of it.  i probably said much more than was needed.  stuey
