Title: CH common symptoms? Post by ebk3 on Oct 3rd, 2003, 10:58pm Do you have these symptoms? 1. My headaches start with a shadow, then slowly (5 to 15 minutes) become excruciating,BUT! they disappear suddenly!! that is to say one second I could be @ 10 the next second/ GONE. 2.Somewhat consistent intervals between attacks? 3. One side of the head always? 4.Total incapacitation, during an attack? For me, I am incapable of doing anything in an attack but what I think of as fighting back. Gene |

Title: Re: CH common symptoms? Post by Zonie on Oct 3rd, 2003, 11:10pm Gene, sounds to me like you know all about clusters. One other thing that I've noticed lately (after having them for 13 years) is that I get extremely hot and begin to sweat (I don't perspire.....I sweat) immediately before the burning in my nostril and eye begins. Also, since moving to AZ, I have learned that getting too hot, such as going outside at all between March and December, brings one on in a hurry. I have a swimming pool, which my grandkids enjoy, but I dare not go swimming until dark. I just hybernate during the "warm" months out here. There's not much outside of my house that interests me enough to suffer a cluster for. I love to do yard work, but right now my beds are awful.....but they'll look good again about Christmas. I try to be very alert to what may bring one on, but as of late it seems that almost anything that I do results in a cluster. Got a lab report from my PC today and now I'll be going on a low carb diet.....we'll see if that may help my clusters, too. |

Title: Re: CH common symptoms? Post by Dave_Emond on Oct 4th, 2003, 4:23am Don't know if it's because I'm Chronic or not, but many times I can recognize symptoms leading up to an attack. It's those one's that hit so hard without warning that scare me. They hit so hard and so quick, they litterally lift me off the ground and I land on my back on the floor. Or, like not too long ago at work, got hit while carrying a 60lb bag of sand, sent me off a balcony into framing below. Although I had bruised bones, cuts and bruises, I lay in the framing holding my head, didn't feel the other pain. Did get x-rays though, was told I'd heal fine but wouldn't be able to work because of pain for a few weeks. "Uh ...Doc? Remember I work all the time with CH?" "Oh yeah ... you shouldn't work at all." I was back to work after a day. Anyway, when previously episodic, attacks came at exactly 2:00 PM and between 8:00 - 8:30PM every day during those 3 month cycles, a few more added in randomly. Now days, any time it feels like hitting it does, sometimes with warning signs, some just ... BAMM!!!! ARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! Dave |

Title: Re: CH common symptoms? Post by BarbaraD on Oct 4th, 2003, 6:31am Mine always started with a sweating of the left eyebrow (no pain yet just the left eyebrow sweating profusly) - then the ear getting a cramp - then the left eye swelling - THEN WHAM!!!! But from a 10 to 0 normal - but exhaustion followed that ... And the sweating -- I've been known to sit outside on a 17 degree night in my nightgown for hours.... In the winter people wear overcoats in my house when they come to visit. I'm comfortable and my heating bills are low. So I guess we do have SOME things in common after all... Hugs BD |

Couldn't have said it better, I have been chronic for 7+ yrs now, and can sense an impending attack, I think if you know you can get hit anytime, you are more aware of the signs (more practice perhaps), and can sort out your defence, but those that slip through are terrible. Zonie, Heat gets me every time, I often wake with my head on fire, sweat dripping, if I get the sun on my bad side (right) for any length of time, I know I am in trouble. |

Title: Re: CH common symptoms? Post by ebk3 on Oct 4th, 2003, 9:37pm Funny I don't think I sweat before or during? I think the question I was most looking forward to some of your experiences, was about the gradual onset vs the immediate end of the pain. Yes I'm exhausted after each attack. I've always attributed that to the intense work required to "fight through the attack"? Gene |
