Title: Bayer AG bullshit news?
Post by jmorgan52 on Sep 19th, 2003, 9:56am
I just read this in a newsletter from my medical aid. I know this refers to Migraine but....... still sounds like a load of bollocks to me.

what is Aspirin Migraine?
------------------------------------------------------
Aspirin as good as new drugs for migraine

German pharmaceutical giant Bayer AG says new studies have found that its century-old Aspirin drug is as effective in easing migraine headaches as a newer, standard therapy sold by GlaxoSmithKline. Bayer said an independent study in Spain had found that two 500mg Aspirin Migraine tablets reduced pain after two hours as effectively as 50mg of sumatriptan, the ingredient in Glaxo's Imigran. A second study found Aspirin and sumatriptan had similar effectiveness in relieving migraine symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and noise.

The only time aspirin has worked for me was when I took 9 in a 4 hour period chased by IB....hour later....excedrin PM...And that was for a migrain....never works for CH...trust me I've tried!

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd rather take the triptans than the asprin - if it did work (but it does't).  As often as some of us take Trex, if we took the 1000mg of asprin that often, we'd probably all die from stomach/liver problems.

Okay im gonna put my head on line here now...BUT since Wes has had his heart attack he has been (along with a few other drugs) Asprin, and has only suffered shadows and a couple of rouge hits..now im not saying it is the Asprin but I know Svenn wasn't hit for ages after his HA, maybe there is something in it...it thins the blood, maybe not one or two asprins but taken on a daily basis who knows...anyone willing to try..??

I know they have given it to family memebers with heart problems on daily basis to keep blood thinned .... small amounts but one a day...keeps clogs from forming I think.....or is it moving....

Cathy, good idea, I only wish it was true.  I have been on aspirin since my first heart attack, over a year and a half ago.  I am chronic, and I have not noticed a difference since then, except I am now in the worst flare up (or if I can call it a cycle, seeing I am chronic) that I have ever been in.

One of the problems with trying to get this cycle under control is that many of the drugs that work for CH's are bad for the heart, or at least my heart.

It would be interesting to see how other heart condition people have reacted since their heart condition.  If good, I still think it is a rather high price to pay to get relief!!!

Only 2 hours eh?   After 2 hours, I normally do not need any type of meds.  ;D

I never...at least rarely get vomit or have sensitivity to light.
