Title: lost a freind to day
Post by hopefull on Sep 16th, 2003, 9:16am
It was my  dog Casey...she blew a disc but with her being 10 years old the best option was meds..vet called said she passed early this morning while he was with her.....no sure why...but said the pain meds etc weren't working...
Don't know how most people feel about their animals but this hurts

Just need to say something

Hopeful, it is tragic to loose a loving pet.  When my horse was put down a few weeks ago, Svenn sent me this poem.  It means a lot to me.  Hope it helps you:

Rainbow Bridge
Author: Unknown

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,
That pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends
So they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine,
And our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old
Are restored to health and vigor;
Those that were hurt or maimed
Are made whole and strong again
Just as we remember them in our dreams
Of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content,
Except for one small thing;
They each miss someone very special to them,
Who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes
When one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His eyes are intent; his eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group,
Flying over the green grass,
His legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted,
And when you and your special friend finally meet,
You cling together in joyous reunion,
Never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain on your face;
Your hands again caress the beloved head,
And you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet,
So long gone from your life
But never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together …

Sorry to hear of your loss hopefull.
It's very hard to say goodbye to our four legged friends but it sounds like your dog lived a long happy life and had a great owner.
Read that Rainbow Bridge poem and take it to heart. It has helped me get through this several times over the years.

Hopefull,

I'm so sorry to hear about Casey. :( Pets become so much a part of your family that it is always painful to lose them.

Just last night on the way home late from work, my wife called & told me that the kids had rescued a cat that was trapped in the storm sewer. They had finally gotten it out and that now it was in our bathroom until we could find the owner.

Now me, I'm a dog person and have never really gotten along with (or really even like) cats. When I first walk in the back door, our 1 1/2 yr old black lab runs up to greet me but then has this turned head look as if to say ... "Daddy ... what is mommy doing?! ... has she gone loco??" Needless to say, both my dog and I are hoping the cat has a swift reuinion with its owner.

Remember the good times with Casey.

BTW, thanks Chuck (and Svenn) for the poem. I hope I won't need to use it for a long time.

Take care
BruceD

Sorry hope.

When I'm out on the porch in the small hours with a hurting skull, I sware that Shadow knows what is happening and would take all of it if she could.

She is a bottomless pit of love.

Sorry.

Title: Being in the usual CH synRe: lost a freind to day
Post by Smurf on Sep 16th, 2003, 12:39pm
One night, about 3 weeks ago,  I was on my knees in the spare room literally pulling my hair out and banging my head on the floor.

I try to suffer in silence so I don't wake my husband up.  All of a sudden, he came barging in and grabbed me and hugged me.
Apparently, our black lab/black shepard mix (huge dog), Timer, jumped onto the bed and pawed at his covers and licked his face until he woke up.  Timer told him that 'something is really wrong with Mommy and you have to wake up and make her better now.'

So, my husband, Timer, and Ziggy (our border collie/lab)
all sat and hugged me.  It was really awsome!  However, being in the usual CH syndrome, I didn't want to be touched.

If it wasn't for our pets, who would love us ALL the time?  When we're sick, ugly, sad, happy, it doesn't matter to them.  They love us not in spite of our faults, but because of them.

I'm very sorry for your loss.
-Smurf

A DOG'S PRAYER

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements, and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth... though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshiper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest... and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss  :'( ... pets can be as much family as our own "human" family is. Our "baby"  Misty Ann (our Chihuahua) is our child .. she is as much a part of our family as our "real" children are.

Remember the good times and Casey will be with you always  :)

I am so sorry for the loss of your treasured pet.  You will probably get more responses than any thread on the board.  Everyone loves their pets... losing one has to be the toughest loss ever.  We had to put our greyhound to sleep about 5 years ago and we are still dealing with the loss.  She was so sweet and such a comfort to me after a long day when i was up alone... long before I ever was internet savy... Remember the good times with your dog and keep her spirit close.  When you find that you have had enough time maybe you will get another... maybe not we haven't  its just too hard to lose them   love to you Ree

Let yourself feel the pain...it's so hard to lose your best friend. They are little angels in our lives for too short a time.

There are many dogs here on the board and we've lost a few.

It's horrible to lose your own as it can be as hard as losing anyone.

All I can say is that it will get better however slowly.

Boy do I EVER know how you feel hopefull.......had to put my beloved palimino horse down a few years ago.....had taught him all sorts of awesome tricks.....he was one cool animal and my best freind. I ain't been the same since I lost him and things have been so different without him. I rode all the time and showed and worked with him for 14 years. The last year he was in bad shape and it was hard to be around him.....he didn't even know who I was. Seeing them suffer isn't a good thing to witness but no ne knew exactly what was wrong with him or what to do or when !! Pam that has a house full of pets

Sad day all the way around.  My heart is with you Hopefull.
I had to put a homeless dog to sleep today.  I've only known him 10 days, I was already attached.  He had to die in a strangers arms.  Sad.
Then I got home and my puffer fish was suffering.  Had to put him down too.
Know how ya feel,
Mast

I am so sorry for your loss.

Having an animal in our house makes us responsible for their suffering - or the end of it.  Be consoled that at least you had the power to do that for your friend.
