Title: any helpful advice on getting welding o2?
Post by head_darts on Sep 10th, 2003, 11:06pm
i just talked to my dr. and he said he could get me a prescription over the phone, but he probably won't be able to discuss with a neurologist today...and then for some reason he said i should wait to call until next week.  thanks but no thanks at the same time, right?

i thought maybe i could go to a welding supply place or something and make my own set up now when i actually need one.  but i need the details on if this is even possible and then where to go to find things like the re-breather mask.

any helpers?  i live in the chicagoland area if that helps at all.

and i'm guessing menards probably is out of the question.

keep your heads up you cluster freaks.  we probably get these because we are too awesome. ;)

Hi Head...Go to the oxygen button on the left.  There is information there that will tell you how to convert the welding 02.  You can order a medical regulator online (Ebay is good), and there are medical supply places where you can order masks.

I use a regular brass welding regulator with mine, not a medical (if you're using it for just 02 you can get by with an aluminum reg).  The medical is better, because you can hook up a bubbler.  It gets pretty dry without the bubbler, but it's okay...better than nothing.

Just look up a welding supply, and go see them.  They will usually charge you a monthly bottle rental, and you just refill as needed.

Hope this helps,
Tracey

Head Darts,
You didn't say where in the Chicagoland area you are,  and that covers quite an area! ;D  If you are around Aurora, Weldstar is very good to work with.  If not in this area BOC Gases has several locations, and are fairly good to deal with.

Which Neuro is your Dr. talking with?  If you need a good one I would recommend Dr Thomas Freedom at Loyola.  He is hard to get in to see the first time, but once established is great to work with, and is quite knowlegeable as well.
