Title: sup?
Post by mnm on Aug 19th, 2003, 1:19pm
I'm 34 and last winter thought something was seriously wrong. I finally went to the doctor after a week of non stop pain. I was diagnosed with cluster headaches and after 3 weeks the pain just stopped. I hear these can be brought on by different factors and am hoping to hear your thoughts.

Well you are thankfully painfree at this point and are able to do some research.

Press all those bars on the left. A wealth of information to be had.

Jeesh...I never knew all this was happening to people. I hope this doesn't become recurring for me. That was the worst three weeks of my life. Thanks for the info.

Sorry to burst your bubble but it IS likely to reoccurr.  You are either eposodic or chronic.  Chronic is you get cluster headaches year round never ending except for a couple weeks break.  Eposodic is getting hit for anywhere from a couple weeks to several months every year around the same time.  Usually it is every year.  Some people get lucky and get hit every 2 or 3 years.  Some have 2 cycles a year and get hit in both the spring and the fall.  So get ready for some more action down the road.  How much more only time will tell if you are new to this.

I'm preparing myself for when it happens again. I was so caught off guard last time I didn't know what was going on. All I know is I wanted to smash my head through the wall.

Hi mnm.

I'm new to this board but I've had Clusters since 1976!

A little info that might comfort you:
In the first years I had 3 - 4 weeks cycles 7 - 8 month apart. Now after 27 years I still have 3 - 4 weeks cycles - only now there is 20 - 22 painfree months between them. So... it can get better over the years. The pain is still the same excrutiating experience for me though, - a tough ride!!! I hope it will be like this for you.

Oxygen (O2) taken early aborts 14 out of 15 attacks effectively within 5 - 15 minutes for me.

Welcome mnm!

Sorry you have to be here.  The only thing positive is how quickly you were diagnosed.  For a lot of us, it took several years before we discovered what we had... which can be scary.

What I hope for you is that it never ever comes back but if it ever does, at least you will be more prepared to fight that devil.

Best of luck to ya!

Don't smash your head thru the wall.   It's a bitch fixing the wall.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome aboard mnm.

It's a bigger club than I thought too. I was dumbfounded to find anyone with this horror. Mine would usually show up twice a year in fall and spring for four weeks or so.

Stick around and let us know how you're doing. Meanwhile, take a look at my old neurologist's technique:
