Title: Triggers
Post by Jewel on Aug 19th, 2003, 9:03am
Still PF, but just curious as to what everyone's triggers are here.  Some of mine are:

Exercise
Cold air blowing in my eye
Smoking/second-hand smoke
Alcohol
Television screen
Heat
Breathing   :)

Alcohol is a definate no no for me. Garenteed to give me at least a kip 8 or worse when I'm in cycle. Outta cycle I can drink like a fish and only get a mild hangover from hard tac like tequilla, vodka or straw rum.

I've tried to pin down triggers, but have only spotted a couple that I am certain of (all in-cycle):

Altitude changes (driving across mountain passes is hell - which sucks since I go 4-wheeling a lot)
Alcohol
Strong perfumes and chemcal smells
Bright light - especially reflective glare

I dont drink but changes of klimate and time changes(eg summer and winter time or another country) trigger attacks. Anger and sleep are risks during a cycle.

One activity that is nearly guaranteed to precipitate a CH attack:  consuming alcohol.

Two other activities that sometimes precipitate an attack:
cardiovascular excercise
sleep

Hi I am new to this site. It is really quite informative. THANK YOU! Has anyone thought of how they hold their jaw? Sounds crazy but....I think when I relax or tense up ..I am not quite sure which... i seem to be clenching my jaw, and when I am consious of it and try to relax and deep breath like yoga, It really helps.
I am not sure if it is pain control or something to do with the jaw.           Anyone??????

For me it is deffinately alcohol....I don't drink often anyway....but deffinately not during my cycle....also sleep....and aerobic exercise ( I used to teach aerobics but have to shut completely down during cycle)....also getting hot at all....no steam room for me...and swimming....gets my neck and back muscles bound up and triggers that place in the back of the neck on my right side....for a big one.....hmmmm....also if I stay up and watch TV turning my head a certain way sets one off before bedtime.....bad smells....bad perfume....

In cycle pretty much everything can and will set one off...

Love you guys,
Karen

Not sure as to each and every trigger, but for me, a lack of sleep (over a period of weeks) will definitely bring on the beast.
