Title: Getting enough meds from ur Ins?
Post by Patrick_A on Aug 19th, 2003, 8:34am
I started my cycle about 7+ weeks ago. After going through the motions of getting my Gp to refer me to a Neuro. I also got him to write me a prescription for Imitex tabs and sprays. You would think that Doctors would know exactly how to write a prescription to where their patient gets the correct amount of Meds, BUT, Lo and behold. They do not!
I ended up going through a long drawn out process with my Plan Administrator and found out how my Doctor needed to write my prescription so i can get the correct amount. Here is the letter i received from the Plan Adminitrator....

Ok,
Today, Merck Medico stated if the perscription is written correctly- you should have no difficulty getting what you need.
Also, it would be much cheaper to do it mail order for 3 month supply.
For 1 month order to get you through:
Pills:
   Imitrex, 100mg 2 p.o. every day for 30 days. 60 tablets.
(if you get over 21 days supply you will have to pay 2 co-pays. So, if you can get by with 21 day order for 42             tablets.you would only have to pay $16.00)

Spray:
Imitrex 20mg spray.  2 sprays every day for 30 days. 60 doses or 63 doses since in a 9 dose supply.

3 month Supply:
Pills:  Imitrex, 100mg 2 p.o. every day for 90 days: 180 tablets (2 every day)
Spray: Immature 20mg spray.  2 sprays every day for 90 days: 189 doses (21  packs)

As a follow up to that, I went to my Neuro with this in hand. He wrote the prescription per the instructions. I went to the Pharmacy. They were incredulous. "Are you sure this is correct"? Yup, i said!
They gave me 60 imitrex nasal sprays for a 30 day supply, and 42 Imitrex tablets for a 21 day supply.

Happy i am. I think this will also apply to other peoples insurance also!
Mine is Merck-Medco under Companion Healthcare.

Just for your information, Patrick

Very smooth. Glad it was that easy for you.

My doc wrote my Zomig script just as you say in #1. No go!

I'm in a 2 week war of faxes with EHS to go outside their "dispensing guidelines".

I sent Lori Coyce an e-mail to ask for help.....silence.

I will not be defeated.

GOOD for you Den!!   Don't let them deny you .. it's not humane.. if you ask me - But - who am I?

Fight them as hard as you can.. and get what you need.  Dont just take no for an answer.
