Title: I'm Down But not out
Post by TerryS on Aug 19th, 2003, 1:42am
My home computer took a hit when we had the big brown out. So I'm without my PC till it can either get fixed or I may have to buy a new one and I don't need that right now.........!!

I'm at work but they don't like us using our computers for personal stuff.

You guys are always in my mind, prayers and good thoughts.

God bless,

TerryS

A bit 'after the event' but I'm sure the techy people here will use the right words to replace mine. I think it is advised (and I for one will be getting one in a hurry) to get a device that prevents power surges reaching your computer. They only cost about £10 here.

Sorry you had this happen Terry, my brother's computer blew up in a thunderstorm here, and he wasn't covered under his insurance as it was 'an act of God'. Funny how people will use the word of God when it suits them isn't it?
I'm sure your country's problem certainly wasn't an act of anything other than incompetence, so perhaps insurance will cover it and you'll get a whole new kit to keep in touch with us with!

God bless and keep you too Terry.

Terry,
I didn't have enough money to get a new computer either. Gateway will finance one for you. You might have to pay a small amount down. Thats the only way I could do it CHARGE :-)!!!It sucks but I couldn't come up with a large amount at one time had to.

Believe it or not....my insurence paid for my new pooter even tho the old one was over 5 years old they MORE then paid for the new one.......SHOCK  :o !!! When I called em tho the lady was rude and said no way should I expect that old thing replaced except for market value as of that day which would of been a couple dollars. But I was suprised ta git a check in the mail for  $1,600.00. I had a simple surge protector on it...lightning went up thru the phone line and fried it. (we have underground lines which don't help) All the electricians includeing the power co told me no surge protector is 100 %......and the phone line HAS ta be plugged into it also. I went out and bought an expensive surge protector but it would shut my pooter off every 3 minutes.....what a nitemare so I uninstalled it inbetween shutdowns and back to a simple one that prolly won't work. Pam that is talkin too much again  ;)

TerryS, the normal things that go bad during a power surge are 1) power supply $25.00 - $50.00 depending on wattage, easy to replace. 2) mother board, a little more trouble to replace, generic $50.00 - Brand name $85.00- $150.00. Available at Comp USA or your neiborhood computer geek store, Either way it is cheaper than most insurance deductables.

Terry,
We'll keep the porch light on and your seat warm.
Leftovers are in the refrigerator.
